Alternative Calendar Contest Images

#1

Post by Liquid Cobra »

Now that the contest has drawn to a close I thought it would be fun to see what people didn't submit as their entry this year. Last year I remember a similar thread of alternates. Let's see them!

I'll go first.

Hmm..I seem to have developed a taste for titanium this year. I didn't realize until now lol.

Crap I actually missed it. I misread the post and thought it ended on 9/30. Oh will. I did have something in the works but the knife isn't quite ready..

Here are a few I have considered for my entry at different times...

These two weren't able to be cropped to the right aspect ratio...

Ha I'm glad you can't submit multiples, because every single one of these is better than any entry I could muster.

The one I posted was the only one I took this year. I wanted to incorperate either some fishing equiptment or wildlife into it but the weather wouldn't work with me. I think I took about 100 photos in a bunch of different configurations in the 10 mins I had to work with but only one came out alright. A lot of amazing entries this year though, that's for sure.

I submitted this one first, then changed my mind:

and briefly considered this one (though cropped a little on the sides to meet the aspect ratio specifications):

I heavily considered using this one but didn't have enough time to tweak it to my satisfaction. It's a tough crowd to compete with. :)

Here are the pics I chose between in no particular order.

My trusty Para2. I have carried this knife a lot and both these pictures illustrate it's well worn beauty.

Image

Image

This pic is OK but I love the way I caught the light on the scales, looks great.

Image

I like this pic but it has too much stuff that isn't Spyderco in it.

Image

I like this pic but the lighting isn't great so it didn't make the cut.

Image

I love this pic and it has some of my favorite stuff in it but I decided not to include it because of other products and a firearm.

Image

I absolutely love this picture but thought it might be too dark for a calendar.

Image

Another good pic I had but like many of my pics it wasn't gonna crop very well.

I was quite happy with this shot at first but the more I looked at it, the weirder I found it. Now I' m glad I didn' t submit it, the composition and the crooked horizon is quite strange indeed :D

As always there's some good stuff in here. Thanks for sharing fellas. This year I took a few shots as the weeks went by as a way to sort of "warm up" for the contest. Unfortunately I waited too long and found myself scrambling the night before the contest ended. What I wanted to do wasn't really working for me. My final submission ended up being a sort of mishmash of a few ideas. Not ashamed to say the blue light I used was from my force fx lightsaber!

Everybody did such a great job this year! I can't wait to see who makes the cut. I really liked my pic that I submitted but some of the entries were just stellar and I am not feeling very confident now.

This contest is so much fun!

I love this contest! I will try and remember to get some of my alternates up after work.

They sure do make us wait a long time though! Good luck to everyone!

I like your pic. You have had some great pics in the weekly contest too.

I've still got my fingers crossed.

I did the same thing, procrastinating until near the end. Then I suddenly had a work schedule change and didn't have any time off before the contest ended, so I didn't get to do what I had planned. At least now I have a year to get the next picture done.

Perhaps I need to buy a force FX lightsaber as well to improve my pictures, as yours seems to be working out great. :p
