I was thinking of getting my boyfriend who collects knives a harpy for valentines day. it will definitely be the nicest knife in his collection, as most of them are under $50.
I was thinking about maybe getting it engraved with something. Does anybody know where I could get that done, and do you think its a good idea at all?
thanks.

I think it would be hard to get a Harpy engraved, as the new ones have a hole cutout in the SS handle for drying purposes.
Most jewelers can do engraving. I've had two dragonflies engraved before for gifts, and I had them both done at a local jeweler for about 6 dollars a piece.
But that depends what you want done. If it's just letters, that would be easy and probably inexpensive. Small signs or insignias may be a different story.

wow, good deal!
thanks!
so, if you were getting a knife from your girlfriend, what would you want it to say... because whatever i think of can't be too mushy, because i mean its a KNIFE! i guess it has to be short and sweet.
hmm, i could think about this for hours :/

wow, that's tough.
I'm not sure if we are the people you should be asking for that. That sort of stuff is the kind of thing thats supposed to come "from the heart."
The times I got knives engraved, I just put my dad's name on it.

Spyderco will do laser engraving of knives. Here's an example below. Contact the Spyderco Factory Outlet for details or you can contact a Spyderco dealer such as Linda (
glasshartt@aol.com ). Linda arranged for the engraving to be done by Spyderco on the Endura in the picture.
Hope this helps!

Combining the "love & knife" thing in quotes is tough, but here are a few:
"Love is like a knife, it can stab the heart or it can carve wonderful images onto the soul that will last a lifetime."
"If you love me as I love you, What knife can cut our love in two?" - Rudyard Kipling
"There lies more peril in thine eyes than twenty of their swords." -Shakespeare

Hi hydro,
Whatever you deside to get ingraved on this bug, also get you´r name on it...He will love that!...And (Hopefully this never happens<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>) any girlfriend coming later will hate it<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Of course, there's always the classic Bryan Adams song:
