I have a number of mules with Halpern handles, and have been regularly rotating them through my kitchen. Current knives are Elmax and S35vn.
They are great as a somewhat more substantial paring knife or small utility knife. My wife, who is not as enthusiastic about knives as I am, really enjoys using them, and appreciates the more substantial grip, compared to the small kitchen knives, and also the sharpness and durability of the edges.
Both of these are probably somewhat overkill for cutting up vegetables, but are great daily tools in the kitchen. I wonder if others are using these regularly as kitchen knives. (I have 7 different ones: 9Cr18Mo, Elmax, Cruware, S90v, S35vn, K390, Damascus, so they would make a great set of steak knives...). How are others using these for food?
I did also just get one of the new paring knives. While not as "fancy" as some of the high end kitchen knives, it is a terrific knife- a bit larger than most "paring" knives, but super sharp, easy to clean (I was a bit worried about the grooves in the handle, but they are big enough for easy cleaning) and great ergonomics.

XHP works well in the kitchen:

I kept my K390 mule in my knife block in the kitchen until it was recently swapped out for B70P. I agree that steels aside, the mule is a very nice all around utility pattern.

My family needs new paring knives, and I want some Mules. I see this working out well. I imagine, given the FFG nature of the Mule design and the wide variety of steels, more than a few Mules must make excellent kitchen cutlery.

Gail and I use all of our Mule Team pieces in the kitchen. It's a good all around test if you're comparing.

Hi Sal,
Nothing quite like kitchen use to really put them to the test, about as real world as one can get I think. :)

Re: Mules in the kitchen/ New paring knife
I use my Super Blue mule in the kitchen. I've really grown to like this steel. I'm currently modifying a Damascus Mule to better fill a kitchen role by grinding off the lip on the bottom of the ricasso/tang area so that the entire length of the blade can contact the cutting board. I'm also deepening the bottom contour to allow for more clearance of the fingers while using a cutting board, if that makes sense.

I use a S110V mule in my kitchen all the time. It makes a good utility knife.
