I've been carrying the Cara Cara 2 with Emerson opener as a PE companion to my Matriarch 2, also with Emerson opener. 2 great knives and I enjoy that "wave" function. also never need a bottle opener while they're on me.

I’ve just come in from opening wet bags of fertiliser in the rain, with my CE snagging, and thinking “I must get a user hawkbill....”

The "Starling 2" is being discod's.. Sorry to heat that because it was a really nice piece, in my opinion, if you'll pardon the plug? The maker also did an exceptional job so it's really a lot of value to the dollar, thanx to the low Yuan. We probably won't make them again,at least anytime soon, so this would be a good time to grab one, in my opinion. I grabbed a dozen to use as gifts.

As the person who requested that you look into a Starling 2, I was also sad to hear it. I'll have to snag some before they are gone. People who love the Ladybug will also love the Starling 2.

Hi Sal---

Is this the same maker as the Byrd Hawkbill and/or Cara Cara Rescue 2 cuz I have nothing but good things to say of them. In 50 years of collecting various lock backs nothing locks up tighter than these two. On top of that the Cara Cara Rescue is Spydie flickable and drop shutty, too. The Byrd Hawkbill is not quite there yet, but part of that may be due to the thin and light 2.5mm blade stock. This maker does things the correct way and hence gets Sal's stamp of approval. Therefore I'm the proud owner of a couple of Chinese made knives. Something that is not said very often on these forums. No snob appeal I guess. Heck, even the much maligned Chinese steel 8CrMoV13 works very well with teeth. It's actually noticeably better performing steel on all accounts than the steel in the knives my Mama used to prep meals to feed my fugly face as a child. If this maker is gonna make the future proposed Byrd Wharnies, then knife afi's should start lining up for them.

Hi Skeeg,

We've actually gone through a number of makers in China to come up with what we now have. We've been working with some of them for 20 years. Maker #3 makes the Starling, Polestar, Alcyone, etc.. Maker #2 makes the Cara Cara, Meadowlark, Robin, etc. Maker #1 makes the Tenacious family, etc. There are a few others we are working with to see if they can meet our demands.

While the Government is not to my liking, we do work with the makers. It's challenging because I have mixed emotions about China at this time.

I ain't too fond of their government, either, but didn't want to get political. The point is that I trust your standards and judgement when it comes to knives no matter the country of origin. Nice of you to do the sorting for us. So much bang for the buck, too. So are the upcoming Wharnies being made by company #2 or #3? :)

Hi Skeeg,

Company #2. I think you'll like them. The samples were very nice.

Long time occasional lurker checking in for the first time!

I carried a tern for over 10 years while working in an office for a fed agency. I’ve yet to find a knife that feels more at home in my hand, but the harrier 2 lw has all but kicked the tern out of my pocket now that I would in the field full time!

Excited for the wharncliffes.
