MKM Burnley slip joint today. I'm finding it extremely impressive. Top notch fit and finish, M390, friendly for many restrictive jurisdictions, and $99 on sale at the site formerly known as MassDrop.

I actually spent some time finding out which Maniago maker produced it so I can try out their other products.

It's a real beast, it is BIG too. :eek:

Feels like a Busse in my hand, but better balanced.

It's NOT a user though, it's for the collection, I have other large knives to beat on that aren't worth what this one is and will be in the future.

I have users and ones for the collection these days.


I do believe that it would be a real monster in the field with that thin grind. :eek: :cool: :spyder:

We just don't normally see knives this large that are ground that thin behind the edge and hollow ground, we just don't.

BOTH of my Randalls are THIN behind the edge.... Thinner than MOST folders.

Vic Climber for me.

Trying to do my first European mount this year. My wife is out of town, my boy is in school and I have the day off so I am doing it in the kitchen. Shhhhh...... I have the vent hood on high. :) It was like 16 degrees this morning or I would have done it outside.

Using my Bark River Kephart, Bark River Clip Point Hunter and Mora Flex (1.3 mm ffg) to do the dirty work. :eek:

I have a slight addiction to Bark River at the moment. :)

The Wilderness Explorer is probably the best fixed blade I own. I skinned the deer above with my Southfork and then processed most of the meat with that Wilderness Explorer and a Gyuto. Most excellent!!!

Those are gorgeous. I'm going to get myself one of their medium blades in 2020. Already have one picked out.

Thanks. They are nice knives and they offer an amazing selection of handle materials as well as blade steels. They are hand made and mass produced so I can find some small flaw in all of them but only if I really look them over. There is definitely some variation from knife to knife as well.

The grinds on mine are all great. The Clip Point Hunter is my newest and it has the thickest grind. The primary grind and the edge are both thicker. It still slices well. A friend has a Bravo and it is way too thick for me.

I got some of these used for good prices. I paid a little more for the Bocote Mini Kephart but I really really wanted it. Overall they seem like a good value to me.

Interested to see how your European turns out! My neighbor did a European on his bull elk this year and it turned out freaking awesome. I’ll have to try to get a picture of it sometime. I think I might try one next year!

We will see. It isn’t as easy as I thought and it appears as though some of the nose bones are broken. I still need to do some glueing and some bleaching. :o
