A very generous gift from my brother-in-law, the Benchmade Nakamura, (484-1 ?).
I was shocked to see your name pop up in this thread haha! That's an awesome gift!! A friend of mine has one of those with some kind of wood scales, definitely a pretty cool knife! Kind of like a Manix, either those ergos work for you or they don't. What do you think!?

Haha! Yeah, I don't post here very often, carry mainly Spyderco other than multitools and occasionally my ESEE 3HM.

Yes, the ergos absolutely force your fingers into one position and if your hand isn't the right size, you're out of luck. My hand fits fine, though I don't think it would fit perfectly if I were wearing gloves, though still usable.

I had only remembered my specific model being in production and was surprised to see how many different configurations this model came in. I think I remember seeing a wood scaled version during a quick search for the model number of mine.

I have a lego SnG in PD#1, acquired years ago. It seems pretty well built and locks up solid. Does not have the "hydraulic" action of a CRK if that's important to you, and took a while to break in smoothly. The G10 presentation scale+integral backspacer means it doesn't feel quite as solid as a full titanium design, but it also feels a little lighter for size. CC or DGG handle versions will be a little slimmer/lighter than lego.

Design-wise it works well for my hand. The massive finger choil + sharpening choil means the actual sharpened edge is pretty short for the total length, even by Spyderco standards. 4mm thick blade is not great for cuts where you have to push the whole blade through material, but it's at least close to a full-height flat grind so it does better than say the Spyderco Southard or any of the 4mm thick ZT/Hinderer designs in that regard. Specialized tool for the pivot is frustrating. I don't use this kind of overbuilt folder much anymore, but when I do the SnG is my preference.

There are some potential issues with the founder's past history but go to Bladeforums if you want more about that.

I guess what I'm saying is I like it and I'm not getting rid of it, though between it not being to my current taste in design and the founder's history I'm not sure I would buy it again. An Endura and a 5mm thick 3V fixed blade is what I use if I'm going to beat on a knife now.

Check them out if you're interested; they seem to hold their value well at least on Bladeforums' secondary market. I think they may have more of a presence over on USN, too. Protech and Microtech have both made some Strider designs, and there's also a (pretty old now) Buck/Strider.

I've hesitated to buy this model for a long time because I prefer ZTs manual flippers to their Speedsafe models. However, you share such gorgeous photos of it on this forum that I finally went ahead and ordered one.

It should be here in a few days :smlling-eyes
