2014 Spyderco Knife of the Year!!

#1

Post by RadioactiveSpyder »

Hi folks, first of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015!!! :D  :)

I've been waiting all day for someone to start this thread, and I've seen a few that looked similar, but no dice (no pun intended!)... So, here's your chance to submit your #1 choice for 2014 Spyderco Knife of the Year. I'm not studious enough to have listed all of this year's models, but let's keep the choices limited to those knives who first saw light of day in standard dealer inventories in 2014. (We'll let the Foundry slide if GS or anyone else wants to vote for it! ;)).

For me, despite a few long-awaited model releases (ahem, CF Native 5 S110V) and those that help redefine the playing field (the S110V lightweight Manix 2), the clear winner was the Slysz Bowie!! I love this knife and it has been battling my Domino for chief pocket time since I got my hands on one. Can't wait to see the Marcin Slysz Spyderchef! Sal, any chance for this in 2015?

Many cheers to all in Spyderco land and best wishes for a wonderful, happy and healthy 2015, your ever-luminescent Radioactive :)

Lil' Lionspy! It won't win, but it is one of my favorite knives of all time. Runner up would be the Cruwear Manix or the composite S90V/CPM 154 PM2.

Even though I don't own one, I would probably have to vote for the manix LW s110v. Nobody really saw that coming and it was like "surprise, thought you guys might like some s110v in a popular platform for $100!" :).

There's no voting here, just whatever you liked the most! Plus, putting a poll up would have taken some work... ;)

I was hoping someone would make this thread! It was suggested at the end of last year but never happened. I think it would be fun to crown a clear winner somehow. I volunteer to keep a running score if people are interested. My vote was going to be my S90V Yo2, but I gotta give it to the..

CTS-204P Domino with blue G10.
Most recently acquired: Military 2, Paramilitary 2 Tanto x2, YoJUMBO, Swayback, Siren, DLC Yojimbo 2, Native Chief, Shaman S90V, Para 3 LW, Ikuchi, UKPK, Smock, SUBVERT, Amalgam, Para 3 CTS-XHP, Kapara, Paramilitary 2 M390
Grail Paramilitary 2 M390 X 2! ACHIEVED!!

For me, its either the Farid K2 w/ the amazing 10V steel, or the Domino with 204p.

That's not an easy choice.

But I'd have to give it to the S110V Manix 2 Lightweight. Where else can you get a 3.3" blade of absolute super steel in a sub 3 oz package for right at $100?

Other knives might be more fancy, but the materials, versatility, function, and value make the S110V Manix 2 LW a real winner.

Man this is a tough one, so many great knives were born but my pick would definitely be the Slysz Bowie, followed closely by the manix2 S110V and the YO2 S90V.

Cant wait to see what 2015 brings.
Happy to be part of this great forum and group of down to earth spyderco addicts, Thanks Sal and gang.
My Grails: Lum Tanto folder sprint, Sprint Persian(red), Captain, Manix 2 (M4), SB MT, PM2 M390, CF dodo, Manix2 (CF S90V),Manix2 XL S90V, Zowada CF Balance Rassenti Nivarna, Lil' Nilakka, Tuff, Police 4, Chinook 4, Caly HAP40 52100 Military, S110V Military, Any/All PM2 & Military sprints/exclusives I can get my grubby hands on :) :spyder: :) :spyder: :)

I was debating between the 204P PM2 and the S110V Manix. I think I have to go with the Manix, for the aforementioned reasons. Talk about casual bombshell! The combination of the proven design, super light weight, ridiculous steel (I frequently use mine to cut sandpaper), and super reasonable price is just a big middle finger to every other knife that called itself a user. Well done, Spyderco. Well done.

I would say the kitchen utility knife, but don't think it would count as a "new" knife.

Manix 2 S110V followed by the Rubicon. I'm just so impressed with the bang for your buck factor of the Manix, it's hard to put anything ahead of it.

Actually, I would amend my statement to concur w/gbelleh and the S110V Manix. Its the best deal on the planet imo.

Sure...why not? It would be cool to crown a "fan chosen best new knife of 2014!"

Don't own it but I have handled every significant Spyderco at my local and most awesome brick and mortar and personally the Slyz Bowie was the show stopper for me. The Rubicon, Chubby, and K2 were all right there but the Bowie was the one to me.

My Favorite for 2014 oddly enough for me has been the ULIZE model. But I want one of those in Spyderedge so bad I would be probably willing to pay Spyderco to custom make me one. And if that ULIZE model was created by a German Police knife designer then it just makes perfect sense to have it available in Spyderedge. Just look at what the iconic Spyderco Police model has done in the Spyderedged Variant. It has taken the POLICE model to another level all together.

The ULIZE has been a very interesting model in my book and I'm wanting to learn more about it and I want one in SE and I bet I'm not alone.

The Yojimbo in S90V has also got my envy meter going crazy as well.

But the Ulize was a 2012 release.

My favorite spyderco that I purchased in 2014 is the Techno - no contest. I liked it when I first saw it, but had no idea how much I would love it after handling and carrying one.

2014 is also the year I discovered an old model - the Military. I am a long-time Paramil user, and I remember the long wait for the PM1. The PM2 became my most carried knife and I always thought it was unassailable. Then I finally tried the Mili, and although it has not replaced my PM2s, it has won a place in my pocket - pretty much EDC (ok, I usually carry at least 2 knives anyway).

But if the rules are released in 2014, I'll jump on the Manix 2 S110V bandwagon. Easily one of the best knives for the cost of any knife I've ever purchased!
