Any Micarta Fans Here?

Just wondering how you all feel about micarta and if you would like to see more Spyderco knives using this material for their handles? Personally I quite like canvas micarta and the linen micarta looks nice as well, any more fans out there?

How about a linen micarta PM2 with s110v blade?? :D

I prefer canvas micarta. I have several customs with it and absolutely love it. I have one that is smoother and one that is grippy, both are excellent. Other forms of micarta haven't done it for me in the knives I've had. Have had kitchen knives and slip joints with it and they were too smooth. I'm sure some people like that, but I want a tad bit of grip.

Would love to see more micarta!

I'm not that picky about handle material so long as it looks good and provides good grip. Some Micarta grips out there look fantastic so no reason they shouldn't be on my spyderco.

I would love to see more offerings in micarta. The solid (liner-less) micarta like the old Caly Jr.s is my preferred choice, but I would be happy with liner-ed versions or even micarta inlays.

Agreed. Canvas Micarta is my favorite too, although the linen version is a close second. I seem to recall Sal saying something about warping/shrinking issues with Micarta some time ago (which I believe is why they seldom use this material on their Japanese-made folders). Maybe Paul or someone can clarify?

I love micarta. Natural canvas micarta takes on a beautiful dark brown color with age and use.

It's my favorite handle material. PM2 would be awesome, but I'd never be able to find one. They'd be gone so fast.

I'm actually having canvas micarta scales made for a PM2 at the moment. So, yes, love em.

Sal has commented that Spyderco has had shrinkage issues with Micarta and that he's not really anxious to use it again. As for me, aside from a bit of discoloration around the pins on a couple white Micarta handles I've never had a problem with any of the twenty or so Micarta Spydercos I own and would love to see more, preferably butterscotch. I live in hope, but I'm not holding my breath.

I absolutely love it on my Temperance 2.
It feels that good.

I'd like to try coarse Micarta handles that would offer grip while wet. I have a few Micarta blocs lying here and there but have not yet gotten around making my own handle scales. I think I'll start with the Squeak, should the mood strike me some time, as I've seen tempting (but expensive) Micarta conversions for it by Cuscadi.

Linen butterscotch is beautiful. Ages very well too. I want a C42 or C22 Michael Walker with it :D Some call it yellow linen, but shades are slightly different (might be aging..)
Antique ivory (linen) is also very nice. None of my older micarta handled Spydercos have any issues, except the white micarta on the Phoenix constantly getting dirty... :o

I do not care about white micarta like on Phoenix and spring Goddard, but...............
But I love canvas micarta on my T2. I love Linen micarta on Hossoms and Vieles and of course I love micarta on my Persians. I can only wish that Spyderco would bring more knives with micarta scales.

I like linen and paper micarta, polished, but I also like polished G10 like on the Vallotton about as much.

I would like to see more models using this, such as the Para2.

Just ordered a couple Michael Morris friction folders in the stuff, will let ya know in about 9 months :).

I can see the reason to avoid it on a production level though. Not to sound like too much of an acolyte but Sal & Co seem to push the boundaries that are less painful whenever they can. While I wish there were more Micarta offerings I just have to hope for things to change down the road.

I love micarta......

I have a custom with hand layered linen micarta. It has a great organic feel and oil, grease, stains come off easily with some **** detergent. Had it for four years and still looks new.

Yup! Got a fan here, BIG TIME!!! :D :spyder:

I love Canvas Micarta on my Spydercos...so much so that I have ordered wonderful scales from Luke at Cuscadi overseas...

A lot of knifefolk are steel nuts, I get into that too, but locking mechanisms & handle materials are my passion!

Canvas Micarta seems "warmer" to me, hard to explain, but just seems more natural to my hand than the other flavors of Micarta...

G10 is a great handle material also, but still not as grippy and organic feeling as Canvas to me, YMMV...

Here I have some Cuscadi Black Canvas Micarta handles with Anso macrotexturing and orange G10 backspacer...

Don't misquote me, Luke does outstanding work...but definitely, the Spydercrew would be even better at crafting handles such as these...

Sorry for the large file size but I wanted those interested to see the detail as best as my poor skills could render it :o

Although it is early, I find the completely slanted results of this poll entertaining.

I have the same scales coming for my PM2, and a blue gitd geared backspacer. A little bummed that the gearing size on yours isn't precise. The ones I've seen elsewhere are a little more uniform in size.
