What model SharpMaker is this?

#1

Post by eldiablojoe »

I was reading a thread on SharpMakers and someone referenced a model 204 and a 701. Which is this old one of mine? It has no fancy integrated case/cover.

Also, the other threads and Sal's videos keep talking about being set at 30 and 40 degrees. My SharpMaker CLEARLY indicates it is set for 20 degrees (Upper right Illustration #1 of back cover), which leaves me

I also noticed when I was sharpening my new BayouShooter Emerson Endura this afternoon, when in the upright flat position, the stone is not totally flat facing each other, but actually twist a little bit out ever so slightly (as seen in fourth photo). Is this normal?

Your Sharpmaker is fine. The 20 degrees is per side and that will give you a 40 degree edge in total. Later models added slots for 15 degrees per side/30 degrees total.

I can't really see any twist to the rods but the base slots may allow for play/movement in the rods when you use it.

It stands for medium fine in reference to the two different sets of rods included.

Hi eldiablo!

What a fantastic Vintage SharpMaker! :spyder:

I'm sure it works as good as any 'new' SM version. :D

Yep, as others have pointed out, it's the 203 (you can even see the 203 MFC part number on the manual in one of the pictures posted).

I still have mine. Back then the optional diamonds weren't triangular rods like today, but were "sleeves" that slid down onto the regular rods.

I can't remember when I bought mine, but it must have been in the 1980's (back when there were knife stores in malls, pre-internet! :) )
Which Knife, A or B? get Both! (and C, D and E) :)
