We had our 17 year old "puppy" put to sleep. It was time, but I sure miss the little guy....

I am so sorry Ken. I fear the day that something happens to one of my four-legged family members.

So sorry Ken. I've been there more than a few times over the years and it's never easy. Some may disagree, but to me it's like losing any other member of your family.

Thanks brother. I never had a dog until later in my life. This was only my second time going through this and in some ways this one was harder to know when the right time was. His decline was so gradual. You just get used to how he is now, if that makes sense? Remembering back to years ago, he used to FLY across the yard. He was only 14" long but at full on, his feet only touched the ground every 7-8'! It was amazing to watch....

Thanks Paul, yeah, maybe actually worse, in some ways. Their whole life they are 100% dependent on you. When the time comes, it's on you to do this for them. That's a decision you don't generally have with a person, though I kinda wish we did - when I get there, I wish someone could just put ME to sleep like that!

I'm sure he had a good life and will rest in peace.

I know it won't go easy, but I hope you can handle it well. Us missing them so much is a success on their part in my opinion.

Very sad that is always a tuff decision to have to make. I cried like a baby the last time we had to put one of ours down. A person can forget to stop and take time to appreciate the days when they are young and full of energy and excitement but we need to cause with them the time slips away so quickly. I am sure you have lots of fun memories to help get you all through it. All the best to you and yours.

Ken - sorry for your loss. Canine companions can really bring joy to our lives, can't they?

It's hard but hopefully he went out peacefully. I have a friend who's about to lose a 25 year old cat and it's not going to be easy.

Wow, A cat that was born in the Eighty's (1989) and is still kicking

I didn't have a clue cats lived that long.

The longest I've ever seen a cat live was 14 years and a dog 19 years.

After 25 years it would be very hard to say goodbye :(

Sorry for your loss friend. I fear my dog is nearing that time, as I have had her for roughly 15 years. She is in good health, but her age is catching up to her. I had to put down a family pet a couple weeks ago too. Wasn't easy. But it was necessary. The vet did not do it. I did. It sucks, but its better than them slowly dying in pain.

I am sure he had a great life with and he would not have wanted anyone else except your family to enjoy his ride through life.

Same here, and his son is only 16 so they have quite a lot of history with this cat. He's had a **** good run though.
