Tatanka

#1

Post by Knivesinedc »

Anybody really looking forward to this blade? I usually dont like really large folders, but the Tatanka looks so good. I am also really eager to give that new powerlock a try. looks like an interesting design. But this is pretty much the knife i have been looking for for a long time. a really tough, robust, large folder for my sometimes more demanding jobs. I am thinking about preordering this tank from KC.

I'm quite intrigued to handle one... and a Farid K2 for that matter.

At 11.5" (with a 5" blade), it's just half an inch shorter than my KABAR BK7 fixed blade, and weighs only slightly less... and has that excellent 50/50 choil.

Could be one heck of a folder... and far easier to transport than a full size 7" blad KABAR.

It's crazy big! Heavy too, especially going from a Native 5 Lightweight to it!

No kidding. Those two do look nice together, congrats!

Great to see them side by side actually...

So which one do you like better? :-)

And can either one actually be [safely] flicked open?

I can't tell for the Tatanka but the K2 is really quick and smooth.

I like the Tatanka more, but they are both nice in their own right. I don't flick open my knives, but the Farid is probably a little faster for me.

How would you compare those few attribute ? Blade thickness, blade shape(hint *belly*), weight, handle material, lock, handle ergo, carry? No need to be technical about why you prefer one, simply looking for your opinion.

I like the lock, overall profile, ergos, and blade shape more on the Tatanka, it feels great in-hand. I like the thin full flat grind, steel and lighter weight of the K2. I don't like the extreme belly on the K2, though.

Certainly not light, but I don't think 9oz is all that bad, considering what you get of course.

For example, I was looking at the Zero Tolerance 0300 not long ago, it weighs 8oz, but with a far shorter 3.75" blade.

I've dreamed of this knife for many years. I'll certainly buy one if I ever get out of my currently impoverished state. I've had to sell nearly all of my once large Spyderco collection to keep the wolf from the door, but once I have some money to spare, I'll be on it. Thanks to Mr. Glesser for another fine design.

Do you happen to have a Szabo? I would like to see that next to those two.
