I know that this is not as practical, but it has it's benefits. I don't have to reach down and past the G-10 scales (slightly abrasive) for anything else such as keys or worry about other items in the pocket getting in the way of removing the knife. And there isn't the issue of scratching a new knife.

Does anyone else reserve a pocket solely for carrying a knife?

My front right pocket had been my dedicated knife pocket for the past 25 years. I wear cargo shorts/pants year round so I have a pocket for everything.

I usually only carry pocket change in that pocket, which hasn't been an issue with any other knife except for my Vallotton with the bolsters since they'd scratch easy. I haven't had any issue with coins scratching the blade or G10 on any of my other knives, even my Southard (but then it's stonewashed anyway). Otherwise at work I also carry a Space Pen clipped in the same pocket. All my other pockets are taken...back right is wallet and Vic Spirit, left back is car keys clipped to a belt loop and tucked in, left front is cell phone.

Good point, sir. I just bought some new cargo shorts for this same reason. But it is hard to find quality garments anymore, i.e., not made in a sweatshop. I really need to visit a surplus shop.

But I thought that you carried yours in a petite man-purse with skulls printed on it !? :p (I'm looking at a skull as I type this - an "artists model".) Oh, and I realize that my question and comment of a heckling nature were from a man (me) that is worried about scratching his knife with coins... :)

I carry RFP with just chapstick in the bottom of my pocket. Gotta have chapstick in Colorado all the time, it's very dry. When I wear gym shorts I carry IWB. Works very well for me.

I don't have empty pockets. Consider yourself lucky! :D

Well, my front right pocket is empty when I don't have a knife in it

I have used the right front pocket of my tight jeans for clipped knives ever since I discovered them almost 20 years ago. At that time I probably put my car keys in there too, then when I found the lightweight aluminum carabiners I started using one of those to put my car keys on my belt loop. I've only been using cellphones for maybe 7-8 years or so, and iphones for less than 4 years. I mostly carry my iphone in the same right front pocket (or shirt pocket). It is very difficult for me to fit my hand into my pocket in addition to my knife no matter what the knife is, but with the iphone it is long enough that I just have to stick one finger and thumb in there to grab the end of the phone and pull it out. In my jeans the phone/knife don't interfere with each other, even with something like a Military, but in slacks or dockers that have the outside of the pocket cut lower then these two things overlap and don't get along.

I carry a whole lot of stuff in the left front pocket. I carry only my wallet in my back pockets because I don't want to sit on anything that might break.

I rarely use my back left pocket for anything else and carry an Endura or LH Military in there. Leaves my RFP for something small and office friendly.

I've always had a pocket dedicated to a knife only, dating from my pre-clip days when the knife sat in the bottom of the pocket and other stuff would have interfered with retrieving it. I always wear cargo pants or some kind of tactical pants with extra pockets since cell phone days, so pocket space is not a problem. To be honest, sometimes when I don't want to leave certain knives behind, I may clip two in one pocket or one in a pocket with something else plus one in a shirt pocket, etc :D

About eight years ago, I was doing something that required me to keep digging for my pocket knife (a Blur) and I slipped it into my right rear pocket for easy access. This is pretty much the way I have carried my knife ever since. I can have my knife out, use it, and return it to my pocket without breaking stride.

This pocket had never been used for anything my entire life. It is like a free pass to carry what I want with little concern for over burdening my pockets. This is also the reason that I fell in love with Spyderco knives. IMO, their thin light form factor make them taylor made for rbp carry.

I sometimes still struggle with the social aspect of having a knife poking out of my back pocket but the practical aspect totally trumps it. Plus, I live in Oklahoma where carrying a pocket knife is not unusual.

I've recently started doing this. I don't know that i could keep a knife in my back pocket, I generally keep car keys in my RBP and cellphone in my LBP. I've moved to a thin wallet recently and now sometimes carry a knife in each pocket in the front plus my EDC flashlight zebralight sc52 in 5th pocket.

I don't carry clipped, but I've been carrying my knives in otherwise empty pockets for sixty years and never considered it impractical. A small knife rides in my watch pocket, larger folders ride in my left back pocket. On the rare occasions when "something" has to share a pocket with the large one, that "something" will either be my wallet, a handkerchief, or the lawn sausage collection bags I carry these days. Definitely never anything that could scratch the knife or get jammed in it, but I rarely carry anything like that in a pocket these days. Pen goes in my shirt pocket and my cell phone, on the rare occasions I carry it, goes there too. Keys get clipped to a belt loop and change stays in the ashtray receptacle in the console of my car until needed.

To contribute to the conversation, I almost always carry my knives clipped. Location depends on a couple things. If I'm going to be using it a lot and/or want it easily accessible, it goes in the right front. If it gets in the way there, right rear. If I won't be using it much or I don't want it noticed, it's in the waistband at about 4 o'clock. I don't really have an issue with it being clipped to the right front where my cell phone usually rides along. The knife is snug in the corner of the pocket, and my fingers don't rub against it retrieving my phone since it's large enough that I don't have to go fishing for it in there (Droid 4, not the largest phone by today's standards but still not small). In fact, the butt of the knife often serves as a little palm rest while the fingers go in to grab the phone. Things are pretty harmonious in the right front. A fixed blade screws everything up, however. Still trying to figure that one out.

I rarely carry one, but what works for me is to have a belt scabbard mounted at a 45 degree angle halfway between belly button and side with handle pointing up and in, to be drawn by the hand on the opposite side. This way, if you have long arms, it takes up some of the arm length and you don't have to be jerking your elbow up in the air.

I buy my jeans at Cost Co. They have an extra deep watch pocket. Deep enough for and endura. When I am carrying something that large I will not bother clipping it. If I am carrying something like a DFly it's gotta be clipped.
