Old Models to Consider for H-1 Salt Series??
Old Models to Consider for H-1 Salt Series??
In response to a recent thread on "which Spyder you would desire to have in a survival situation?" along with the longing desire to see some of the older Spyderco models resurrected in H-1 blade steel?? There are a few of the older models that I would personally love to see how they would do in the H-1 Salt Series.
First and foremost my 2 original Temperance 1 models ( PE & SE) that I use quite frequently have truly been my "go-to" knives for several household, work and outdoor cutting chores. To me it was a superior design from the get-go. I think that the original Temperance 1 fixed blade model both SE & PE in H-1 blade steel would be an outdoorsman and survivalists dream blade. There are some other older Spyderco models that I would love to see brought back in H-1 blade steel as well.
I still hold out hope that someday there will be an H-1 Dyad (full sized) model. I've even wondered how nice a C-60 Ayoob would be in H-1 blade steel ( PE & SE)??
I'm sure many of you have thought along the same lines. Which older Spyderco model would you all like to see brought back in H-1 blade steel?
It doesn't matter whether it is a fixed blade, folder or any of Spyderco's great specialty blades. To me the H-1 Salt Series has had the potential of being at the top of the heap in the survival sector>> not to mention the low maintenance and superb performance of H-1 full Spyderedged blades. So what are your picks for older Spyderco models for the H-1 Salt Series????

The blade design and geometry of the C-60 Ayoob model I believe would make it probably the best Spyderedge possible especially in H-1. I never even considered the older Goddard designs to be a candidate for H-1 but the more I think it over it does make sense. I don't remember if there ever was a full Spyderedged Goddard design to the best of my memory. The C-60 Ayoob model is definitely a superior model that often gets overlooked. But since using a G-10 handled Ayoob on a daily basis I would really appreciate a C-60 Ayoob in H-1 Spyderedge and plain edged as well but I would still want a G-10 handle for that one.twinboysdad wrote:SE AYOOB. Goddard would not be too shabby, but the Ayoob is the prime candidate.
Also as nice as the green handled H-1 Catcherman turned out it makes perfect sense to have one of those in full Spyderedge as well. All of the Catchermans are great working knives but the H-1 model was truly great.
I've always thought that the original stainless handled Rescue model would be great with an H-1 blade as well.

The SEAYOOB. Perfect fit for an H1 C60!

I'd really like a Catcherman Salt model.

Wasn't this accomplished with the C120 Mariner Salt?JD Spydo wrote: I've always thought that the original stainless handled Rescue model would be great with an H-1 blade as well.

The SE Ayoob or Goddard in H1 would be candidates for the yellow G-10 unlinered handle? Temperance 1 models in H1 would be great!

I pitched the idea of a Calypso Jr. FRN handle with H1 steel back in 2007 in this thread. I'd still be game for that in a big way.

It was a release and release, I reasoned my dedicated Rapala fillet knife would serve me well until Spyderco had an H1 model :)xceptnl wrote:I believe you have a catcherman in your future.

A fair decision. I am hunting for an older Uncle Henry one so I can wait for an MBS-26 version. I have the H-1Clip wrote:It was a release and release, I reasoned my dedicated Rapala fillet knife would serve me well until Spyderco had an H1 model :)

I think there should be an already existing mold for the FRN-scales, so my choice would be:
C52 Calypso jr, C38 Horn lightweight, C16 Goddard or C78 Native III
C60 Ayoob or C58 JD Smith would be even nicer, but I doubt that Sal would make a new mold for a salt variant.

I would love either of these, but would really like more clip options. Love my current collection of both models, but the clip options always disappoint me.MarcusH wrote:I think there should be an already existing mold for the FRN-scales, so my choice would be:

That sounds very good.ASmitty wrote:I pitched the idea of a Calypso Jr. FRN handle with H1 steel back in 2007 in this thread. I'd still be game for that in a big way.
My inital thought for JD Spydo's post was "D'Allara Rescue!" Already have a Tasman Salt and a Spyderhawk H1, but if we must be acquisitively hungry, I like ASmitty's idea.

It was directed at Clip. I saw he was possibly negotiating for a Catcherman on BF.bearfacedkiller wrote:Is this something that is coming back? I really wish I had gotten in on the USN sprint and have been keeping my eye open for one for a while.
