Help Me ID This Delica's Color

#1

Post by ASmitty »

I need help IDing the color of this FFG Delica I received recently. I'm not 100% sure of what it is although I have an idea. I won't say what I think here as I don't want to influence opinions. I'll try to post a comparison pic here later to see if that helps. For now, you'll have the one I took at my desk to work with (it's a slow day here). Image links to a larger version if needed.

It's definitely not BRG. I have 2 BRG Delicas and 1 Endura and this is definitely a different color.

Also, the blade steel on this FFG Delica is VG-10, but I'm 99% sure the handle and blade didn't leave the factory together.

I would have said BRG too. Between camera, lighting, and the display used to view a picture, apparent colour can vary quite a bit. Would need the comparison pics you mentioned in your post.

*edited to add: as well, from previous posts on this forum, it sounds like FRN colours can vary between batches.

It might be the FRN from a Delica Emerson Wave. The one they call dark grey but look dark bluish.

Any possibility it's been RIT dyed?

Anything is possible, as I got it second hand, but I FCM415 may have the right answer. I was thinking these scales were from a waved Delica before posting. I'll post some comparison pics with a couple other FRN handles when I get home to see if we can find out for sure.

Looks a lot darker to me than my waved Delica 4, but that could be differences in our cameras, lighting, etc.

The lighting is pretty terrible in that picture! There isn't enough light for me to tell black from BRG from Dark Grey.

Yes it looks very much like the Emerson wave FRN, I got the endura and the delica in that color.

Looks dark gray/bluish too me. It appears to be the same on my Delica with Emerson Opener.

Here's a new picture with multiple Delicas. From top to bottom, they are: black, BRG, the "unknown" one, and gray. I think the answer is much more obvious in this pic. I'm certain it's the handle from a waved Delica now. Thanks for all the help on this one. Sorry about my crappy pictures.

Definitely looks like the color of the waved Delica/Endura, especially when next to the BRG and gray.

Winner winner Sheen dinner. That would be my guess too. Someone did a blade swap.

Well, to me, the two middle ones look identical, which, based on your ordering, would make the unknown one BRG.

OTOH, if I copy your photo and increase the lighting, #3 does look blue/grey while #2 looks green.
