Battle of Small sprints - Blue Lava vs Gray Jester

I am into smaller knives these days. I have two manbugs, two dragonflies, and a clip-it-tool. Also have a cricket. Love them all. Also plan on getting a Cat eventually. Which sprint should I grab? Both? Jester is $110 and lava around $130. Lava looks soooo comfy and could see myself carrying since small w clip. Jester is great but already have two manbugs. Really prefer the blade on jester though and great carry for office edc. Thoughts?

That's kind of expensive for the Jester, I think they were around $70 street price.

Yep, but I only see one dealer with them and all of their prices are high. If the price wasn't so high and more inline w manbug g10, I wouldn't have made this thread bc I would've already bought it!! Lol

You really should (if you have the means) get both! I know 110.00 seems like a lot but I would grab it if you can.

IMHO, Jester is the better of the two as a key chain knife. For just about anything else, the Lava has the considerable advantage of a larger, more hand filling, handle.

Now I am debating between the dragonfly 2 g10 and the lava. The dfly is lighter, shorter closed, and longer blade. But I just find the lava strangely sexy. And sprints are fun. And ya.

This wouldn't be a "keychain" knife. I am in courthouses fairly often so have to watch what is on my keys.

It's kind of a toss-up. I mean, when it comes to Sprints, I generally jump on the model(s) that are harder to find first. Bearing that in mind, I would personally get the G-10 Jester first (since it is an older Sprint and definitely harder to find). The Lava Sprint is indeed a fine knife, but since it is still fairly easy to find, I'd wait on it for a while.

Truth...I think you have time with the Lava, a lot of places have them in stock.

Everyone's hands are different but, FWIW, the Lava feels great in mine, while the D'fly is one of those knives that has never felt quite right.

As much as I appreciate Chad Los Banos and Spyderco what the Lava lacks is an acute point. That means a terrific knife unless scary sharp is often frustrating. IMHO the Jester and similar little big knives have a much more useful blade shape. A pity as the Lava handle is genius. I had mine wharnified :) .

I love the look of the jester. But I paid around $80 for a G10 manbug. $120 shipped on the jester is mighty tough to get to. That is only thing holding me back. I contacted the dealer and said if they went down to MSRP, I'd take it. MSRP is $99. They denied it. If I spent $120 on the little jester, I feel like I'd carry the g10 manbug more because it is cheaper and replaceable. The collectibility of the jester is cool and all, but don't think it'll get me to $120.

I think the main problem with the Jester is a FRN Ladybug is available for less than half the money. I know they aren't even close to the same but the Lava doesn't have a similar comparable. Once it's gone it will be a hard one to track down.

Thanks guys for letting me talk this through. Jester will remain near top of list but will hold off on this price point for now. Probably scoop a lava sooner than later. My brother has a g10 dragonfly so I can compare them both.

I have a dfly 2 g10. It's grand! Functionally identical to the frn ones, but it feels a lot more solid. A very nice piece. And one heck of a slicer, too.

Freak it. I'll get both. Jester purchased. Lava on deck. Also scooped a balance and cat :-)

You'll love the Lava, it's the greatest "little big knife" I've ever handled. It's also legal just about everywhere (I believe that Washington DC has a 2" blade limit).

The Lava is also as good as it gets, among sub 3" folders, for self defense if you're into that ;)

I bought 3 of the G10 versions. I dyed one black and carry it constantly, the others are pre need replacements. I like/need/use it that much, it's one knife that I never want to be without.
