Hi all. Haven't been around for a few days, and just read all the replies to my inaugural posting. Rather than going all necormancer and resurrecting an old thread, I'll make a new one. As it so happens, I have a birthday coming up (Monday in fact, turning the big 3-0 :eek: ) Soooo..I'm thinking new knife time. I like the idea of a smaller knife than the Manix XL, not that it would be hard to do :D Whipping out a big knife to open a bag of M&M's can be a little off putting sometimes, as much as it pains me to say. I have a weakness for big blades, BUT..sometimes smaller is better. Any suggestions? I'd like to keep it under $100 if I can. Thanks in advance.

Dragonfly 2

Another vote for the Dragonfly 2. The green G10 version would make a nice birthday present.

Yup I really like the g10 version. It's worth the extra $$ in my opinion.

Can't go wrong with the Dragonfly either, though. Those would probably be my top two picks for a small knife under $100.

The Chaparral is great as well, but costs a bit more.

I'd recommend the SB stretch or maybe the glass fiber damascus stretch. I have neither, but I've seen quite a few positive reviews, and the price looks right to me.

I will 2nd the Chaparral. The carbon fiber Chap can be had for under $100. The new ones are XHP, but I imagine a lot of dealers still have s30v in stock as well. Good to be aware of in case you have a preference...

Dragonfly, Persistence, Ambitious

The chaparral and the dragonfly are my two favourite small knife models

Love my stealth chaparral. Perfect, dress knife IMO, but would be fine in an EDC role as well. Sage is a similarly well reviewed knife with different lock options.

Thanks for the suggestions. The native in Carpenter steel at knife center if awfully tempting. Have to give it a think.

It depends on how small you want the next one to be. You must buy the Foliage Green G-10 Dragonfly at some point. You can put it off until after you buy the Chaparral or Native if you like, but I would highly recommend that you just go ahead and order it, then order one of the others while you wait for it to arrive :D

P.S. I forgot to mention that the G-10 D-fly is small enough that you'll want to carry it in addition to the other one you choose. Also the discontinued carbon fiber Cat would be a fancy choice in between the D-fly and the others in size, if you're lucky enough to locate one. (If you find two, please PM me.) :)

I can't argue with the obvious suggestion of the G-10 Dragonfly that has been mentioned multiple times by my fellow forumites. It is one of my favorites (as well as my signature image). I must also insert the idea that the Ladybug offers amazing cutting power to size, is available for a very reasonable price, and can be found in a wide variety of edges and steels. I recently picked up a trio to compliment my larger knives. Got the 3 for just over $100 to qualify for free shipping! Couldn't be happier. Welcome to the forums.

XHP native is a winner for me under $100. For a little more coin, the techno is awesome!
