Folks,



On friday I started this years whitetail deer season, and ended it just as the light was fading that day. I met up with and killed the biggest buck I've ever seen (in real life)... I've been hunting for one like this for twelve years now.



I used my new combo edge Wegner to field dress this deer, which it did effortlessly and it's still shaving sharp. Isn't that something? The Wegner design is incredible, and I really like the combo edge for this task.



My last years deer was field dressed with my plain edged large Wegner, which is truly great...but I think the combo edge has "the edge" for all around game processing purposes. I intended to use them both this year to compare, as the plain edge was in my truck but I was done so quickly I didn't even think of fetching the other knife, and I sure didn't need to get a freshly sharp knife part way through the job.

Congratulations on the hunt. I know exactly how you feel. It has always been euphoria for me to kill a deer and drag it in. The Wegner is a super knife in any form. At Blade-Tech they have the ultimate Wegner but at $350 I will have to wait awhile.

Thanks for the nice words...I'm still glowing from the weekend. Had some hunting buddies come by tonight ogling my "big boy". It sure felt good.

There was a fire and a fair bit of sippin' done that evening; last Friday. Celebrate I did...and shall.

I'm just looking around for the best place to take the head for mounting, as this deer will be skinned out tonight. At first I wasn't going to have it mounted, but now I figured if I don't I may always regret it. It is after all, my first "real" buck.

Mounting smounting. Let's talk recipes, man! What culinary plans do you have first? :-) I'm not a hunter, but I do love the taste of well-prepared venison. Great stuff!

Vox -- Gee, I sure would try it if I could... But for some reason Sprite seems to be banned from the Massicotte household. I wonder why? Ya think maybe it could be that Sprite and Scotch will <b>NEVER </b> mix? Never Ever!!!

That's very kind of you. It looks now like this one will be getting mounted alright, but I have big set of whitetail antlers from two years ago I could sens a hunk of I suppose.

Years ago in High School history class, (before I got turned onto knives) one project we were assigned was to write a report on _any_ topic concerning Native Americans. To set it apart, we also had to make something that our report concerned.
Of course I was the only one that picked Native American weaponry as a topic. One of the weapons I came across and decided to make was a flail made from a small deer antler.
I simply Sharpened the tips.
I will have to dig it out and hang it on my wall.
