Spyderco 2014 Production Sample – Native 5 Lightweight

#241

Post by Mr Blonde »

The Native 5 Lightweight was a nice surprise, as I didn’t remember seeing this version last year. The handle has no liners in it, but there are little steel ‘barrels’ with threading in the handle, for a positive lock-up of the clip screws when you want to set up the clip for e.g. left-handed or tip-down carry. This one’s definitely on my wish list.

Spyderco 2014 Production Sample – Paramilitary 2 - Composite Sprint

#242

Post by Mr Blonde »

Although this very special Paramilitary 2 sprint was already shipping, Eric and Sal brought it along with them to the Amsterdam Meet.

IIRC, the most important reason to try and make this CPM 154/S90v composite blade was ‘to see if it could be done’. I remember Eric explaining that this blade has no real practical benefits over a regular S90V blade. However, it was a very complicated process to successfully combine these two steels in this composite blade. Hopefully, the knowledge gained during this process for this Paramilitary 2 Sprint, will lead to other related innovations that will prove practical. There will be more knives by Spyderco with this type of composite blade, but not in a Paramilitary 2 frame.

Wouter,
Thank you for pictures. Nice knife, as expected. clip is different than on g10 Native5. I really hope that both g10 and LW variants will stay in production and Spyderco will catch-up with demand. Interesting what MSRP will be for this knife and how soon it will hit dealer's shelves?

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

That native looks like my next Spyderco, unless the new Kiwi gets out first.

The N5 LW looks like a nice knife. I am not a big fan of the N5 ergos, but if the sprint with an interesting steel come out, ill definitely be giving this model a try :D

Keep preachin' brother...

And isn't it amazing how the Spyder engineers can take a "perfect" design...tweak it a little and make it "perfecter" (sic.)

Backspacer looks good & practical and an easy candidate for a custom colored G10 weekend project. :D

Still would like to see the Spyderhole uncovered more in the closed mode. Must be a reason why it hasn't already been addressed...does it mess with the zen of the ergos?

The S90V core on that Para looks pretty off center. *shrug*

I like that Native Lightweight.

This N5 LW just begs for for sprints and colors, really looking forward to those. Bi-directional texture FTW! The forum knife had the (possibly intended) consequence of introducing me to the awesome Native form factor. Up to now, my Delica had the advantage when it came to the scale texture and lightness, but this one has the potential to play like an upgraded Delica.
