Endura flat saber vs hollow saber thinness - Which is thinner?

#1

Post by RealKnifeUser »

I fully understand the differences between these two grinds in how they could affect cutting performance.

What I'm wondering is if anyone has measured one at the edge right at the shoulders, both of course being sharpened to identical bevel angles, to determine which gind is thinner behind the edge.

This is more just curiosity, as I want to have one in each, and already have an FFG model. So I'm just asking to be able to determine any potential performance differences. (Minor and OCD as they could be)

Thanks in advance everyone,

-Ryan

Sorry for being pedantic and unhelpful, but I thought a "hollow saber" was just a hollow grind

Hollow grind, but at the lower hight, the grind is called a hollow saber I believe, different from a high hollow grind. Same with a flat saber grind vs a FFG.

Thats part of why I'm wondering the difference in thickness, the grin hight seems very similar, just hollow vs flat. The thickness behind the edge could, if substantial enough, make a bigger difference in cutting ability..

Saber or or saber flat aka "partial flat grind" in theory would have more material left on the primary bevel. Hollow grinds are concaved by nature for ease of sharpening and higher sharpness but less toughness (again, in theory).

Edge angle and material behind the edge is going to vary per application. In this case the only way to get an Endura hollow grind would be to get a SS model or maybe a Pacific Salt and pretend it's not.
