Sebenza 21 Discontinued?

Been doing some research on the "WEB" on Sebenzas and some people have stated that the Sebenza 21 is being discontinued. Does anyone have any info on this, and if so why? :)

Could you post links to where you read that?
Don't believe there's been any official word yet. Haven't even seen anything past suspicion that it may happen in the future, actually

Read a thread on Blade Forums! Said the 25 would be replacing the 21, but no time frame given! :)

Yeah I think the 25 is set to replace the 21... business as usual.

The plan does seem to be to replace the 21, you probably read the same thread as I did. As they don't have a small 25 yet and haven't done any inlays or customs yet it will probably be a year or two at least before the 21 is out of production. Still it seems like a shame as there does (at this point anyway) seem to be more CRK fans out there prefer the 21 to the 25. Many wish that the 25 would just be developed as its own model and the 21 be left in the product line. Still change does happen, I am sure when the regular was discontinued people felt the same way.

I take it you are referring to this thread?

Maybe a stupid idea...but why not drop CRK an email? Last I heard and read through the grapevine is no official decision has been made. Until then, the Seb 21 will remain.

Yes, that's the one! It kind of puzzled me because everyone loves it so much! Like you said, just make both models and don't discontinue any! Spyderco has tons of models! :)

Spyderco is also an immensely larger operation than CRK. The Regular was discontinued +/- five years ago in spite of its relative popularity.

No, not taboo at all. But your best source of CRK information may well not be the Spyderco forum
Not to say there aren't CRK fans here, there certainly are. But it's not the main focus so don't put too much weight on low response.

That's a pretty old thread you linked to on BF, from 2012. Given that they still haven't put out a small 25 nor even a 25 with inlays, I wouldn't imagine that this would be a quick change over. I would imagine it may take a couple years still to happen.

Apart from the difference in the handle, what exactly is the difference between the two? I haven't ever handled either one, aside from a small 21 knockoff.

Different blade grind, ceramic lockbar interface/detent, different pivot, slightly thicker blade, and the handle differences you mentioned.
The ceramic lockbar interface seems like the most useful upgrade and the rest is probably down to preference. From what I've read, it certainly seems most people like the 21 more.

You're probably right, seeing it's been over a year and a half already! :)

I'm holding out hope that it's still available.

I do too - it is a signature product. Whether it becomes too expensive for the market? - I suppose it could happen, though it is hard to imagine.

Plenty would still buy one even if the price got up there.
