Swick 3 Scales GAW

#1

Post by jabba359 »

I know there are some Swick 3 owners out there that don't have scales and would like some. Since I need to order some new materials in the near future anyway, I thought I'd go ahead and have a giveaway where the winner can pick out the scale color/material that they want.

There are a few stipulations. I work with G-10 and Micarta/Phenolic, but I don't work in CF or metals (Ti, bronze, copper, etc). I'd be willing to try out Kirinite or ResinWood should the winner want a handle made out of those materials. I've only done polished and Anso-textured finishes before, but again, am willing to experiment with other finishes should the winner want something different. My supplies come from USAKnifeMaker, so material colors are limited to what they offer. I also reserve the right to veto any material requests (so no, I won't be dropping $50 on the Westinghouse White Paper Micarta material to make your scales).

You want Bengal Tiger stripe G-10 with purple G-10 liners and Anso-style texturing? I can do that. Ivory paper Micarta with black G-10 bolsters and no liners with a polished finish? I can do that. Neon green and black Anso-textured handles with polished black and tan ResinWood bolsters on double layered liners of hunter orange and pink? Sounds ugly, but I can do that. The picture below is an example of the scales I made for my Swick 3.

Contest will end Jan 5th at 11:59PM PST and winner will be chosen via random.org. I will contact the winner via PM, so make sure your inbox has room.

So, how does one win such a prize? Simply do the following:

1. Post a picture of one of your Spydercos in your hand. A knife isn't very useful until it leaves your pocket and is in your hand, so let's get them out and see how they fit your hand.

2. Be a Spyderco forum member prior to Dec 2013.

Good luck to you and if you don't have a Swick 3 and no use for scales, then check out my other GAW for a lanyard: http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthre ... anyard-GAW

Thanks for the generous GAW Kyle, please count me in (my new Swick still sits naked and unused)! Those Swick scales are excellent, you do great work! I'd count myself very lucky to get my hands on some just like those!

Here are two shots of my SB Endura which has been getting a lot of pocket time recently (especially after putting a deep carry clip on it :) ). It feels great in the hand, and fits me a little better than the Delica does (but I do appreciate how much smaller the Delica is and how it rides less obtrusively in your pocket). The Aogami SB is of course still razor sharp on it after cutting a fair amount of stuff with it so far.

Snowing here today in NY, started a little before daybreak...

I'm in, thanks for the generous giveaway! I chose my Hossom WoodLander because it's been my most used Spydie lately. Been using it to process firewood (even though we have so many Spare the Air days, our stove has gone unused this winter) and along with my axe, it's helped process a small pile. Also it's really fun to chop wood. And it's a good workout! The edge has held up extremely well additionally, 3 days without touching up the edge and it would still slice paper, although it was far from shaving.

And my Swick3 has been sitting unused as well, I tried my hand at making my own micarta scales but apparently you need more than a hacksaw to cut micarta :D Stuffs tough and heats up quick.

Here's one I don't often pull out anymore. The original concept. One of Nine. Thought it fitting to share. I don't have a Swick 3 (just this and a regular production Swick) so not really in... great GAW though... many thanks.

I'd love to have some scales for my Swick.

Jabba, do you do those commercially? I'd be willing to pay for some.

Just a reminder that you have one more week to enter to win, though I'm sure those who entered already wouldn't mind less competition! ;)

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing. Great first choices of Spydies IMO. The Caly 3 is near the pinnacle of ergonomic perfection as far as I am concerned. You have likely discovered this without needing to buy dozens of others first in your search.
