Just joined the forum today. Wanted to ask a question, I did a quick search on this but couldn't find what I was looking for. I own several knives from another manufactor, starts with a B ends with e. I was searching for something the other day online and ran across a spyderco that drew my attention. Unpon futher reasearch, I guess I had my head burried under a rock for a couple years. Spyderco para-military 2 is beautiful knife and one of the most sought after. I found a couple on Ebay but also read where alot of fakes on ebay also. Is there another knife from spyderco in production today and available that comes close to the para-military 2. I would really like one made from usa. I thought I had read that some of spyderco production is done overseas. Any insight would be greatly appreicated. Thanks

The Paramilitary 2 is still in production, but the demand is very high, so not many places have it in stock. And when they do, it gets sold out quickly.

You can check that thread out and see where they're in stock.

Welcome to the forums! The USA made spydercos are amazing knives! But i believe spyderco's taiwan models are of even higher quality and i wouldnt disregard them because of the country on the blade.

Agreed...out of my small collection of 15, the best fit and finish is on the Taiwan models (Though by a very small margin). I'd say the Seki models and the Golden models are on par, and I don't have any Italy or Chinese made knives from Spyderco to compare.

I can understand wanting to buy USA made products though, and as such you might want to check out the Manix 2 or a Native 5 if you don't end up finding a Paramilitary 2. They're hard to find, but they can be had with some patience. Some of the ones on eBay are real, and some are fake and there seem to be more fake Spydercos every day. If you buy new from a reputable dealer you should be alright.

I still love that you chime in from time to time, makes a guy feel like he's really part of something. Thanks, Sal and team! Please keep it up. Also, keep searching different vendors, you'll come across a para 2 in no time...it'll be worth the wait.

I say wait for a para 2 from a reputable vendor. It's the only knife in my collection I have multiples of.

Welcome to the forum, DL1340!

As the others mentioned, you should keep an eye peeled for a PM2. They're out there. In the meantime, I would suggest checking out the PM2's big brother, the Military. It's an incredible design!

Given the extent to which knock-offs of all "brand name" knives has become a problem in the last few years, the only safe place to purchase ANY knife is from a reputable dealer and the "best way" to insure that you'll be ripped off is to buy from an vendor located anywhere in the Far East other than Japan.

As for knowing which Spydercos are made in the USA. If you visit the Catalog page of the Spyderco website, there's a menu option to show knives by Country of Origin. If you select United States from that menu, you get a set of pages showing all the Spyderco items made in the USA.

Buy a Satin/Digicam, and a DLC/Black, and do a bladeswap :D
