Anyone own? Thinkin of buyin this for a outdoors kind of guy, for Christmas. Hunter & Fisherman.

Love mine. Bought it for a trip to hawaii. It saw the beach and ocean almost everyday for a week. No problems with rust or tarnish. The black on the blade wears a little, but does so very evenly. H1 is pretty soft, but when it comes to resharpening it is very easy to get a very sharp edge. I like that i don't have to worry about the blade and can use it on many things that i would never think to do with other knives. I feel like i can use it anywhere and i seem to make the most memories with this blade. Every time i pull it out i remember the great experiences that we have shared. For that reason i think it would be a great Christmas gift.

Hope he puts it to good use and makes some memories of his own.

I think the black blade looks pretty good. To be honest I haven't used mine much yet, usually have carried the uncoated version when using H1, but I like it none-the-less:

Well the H1 Steel being "soft"is a little scary.

Why would that be scary?

It's not scary China/Pakistan soft. Easy to touch up.

Soft is a bit of a dramatic word for H1. It performs similar to AUS in PE. It also sharpens really easily so if you are gifting it to someone who is not a knife guy or doesn't have great sharpening skills it will be a nice choice. I have several H1 knives in plain edge and they are my go to knives for outdoor use.

Hey there, I probably love the salt knives as much as anyone on here, and I use them daily. However, if you want plain edge and your friend is not going to be in a saltwater or highly corrosive environment, I would recommend the endura over the pacific salt. Vg10 is very corrosion resistant and is not going to rust from normal use, and will be fine for hunting, fishing, rain, blood etc. IMHO the sacrifice you will make in edge retention with plain edge h1 is not worth it unless EXTREME corrosion resistance is a very high priority. Horses for courses. Just my 2 cents, and remember this is coming from a HUGE h1 fan!

Now, if he's a saltwater fisherman, or a diver, scrap everything I just said and get him the pacific salt! It's awesome! :D

Amazing knife. I will get black on black when I get the pe. I have yellow in se. The black on black would be a greasy compliment.

Valid point. I do the same with mine after cleaning fish...minus the drying and oiling! Never had the slightest problem. The salts are about as maintenance free as a folder can get.
