This is my first post. Hope my question will not bore you guys. This is for self defense purpose, and as a deterrent only. I have no intention to maim or permanently injure would be thug, so it will be slash slash, and no stabbing. BTW I'm fairly street wise, and avoid dark alleys etc. I have no known enemy. I don't go out to drink, :) or pick up fights. Also I do muaythai regularly, and can run too :D .
So what would you recommend?

Neck knives are illegal to carry where I live so they start off a few points behind.

As for defense, I would learn that first and foremost from a proper place (where you get bruises), then choose a tool. That said, slashing at an attacker with a 2" blade and banking on psychology is a real gamble. Most knife encounters involve MANY cuts and neither party realizing it until the paramedics arrive.

If I was looking for a defensive weapon, I wouldn't pick either of those. I love my Dragonfly, but it's not really suitable for that sort of thing.

Do you have legal restrictions that prevent you carrying something else for defense?

I'd agree with what the others have said. I'd also suggest you consider that, for a knife of any given blade length, slashing can cause more damage than stabbing. Much greater chance of hitting a vein or artery, or severing a tendon. I would further observe that getting into a fight of any kind with the intention of doing minimal damage to your opponent borders on suicidal.

I would recommend putting a Dragonfly on one of the large coiled steel keyrings like I do. That way you can put your little finger in the keyring and use it like an extension of the knife handle. Then you will always have the Dragonfly with you everywhere you go because it's on your keychain. However I would get a Caly 3.5 to carry in my pocket.

I live in Thailand. Believe it or not, I used to have CCW permit for my SigSauer P225. I've received Thai Royal Air Force combat pistol training ( similar to PPC) with highest recognition, so I know the importance of "Draw to kill". I gave up renewing permit, because even the P225 was heavy and cumbersome to lug around, and a hassle to renew permit ( I don't buy permit) :D . My reason for just slashing is to buy time to run and flee. Also to gather blood for forensic evidence. I've had Thai sword training, and with muaythai, I do have basic understanding of using edge weapon for self defense. Nevertheless, I do consider all suggestions invaluable. Thanks. :)

Given your credentials a small knife just doesn't make sense. I don't take the stance that weapons should be avoided as they escalate a situation (as it's clearly escalated if you are drawing a weapon). However, if you slash someone and run that will certainly make things worse as you likely will enrage the skilled predator. Plus you have to explain to the authorities that someone attacked you but it's ok because you have their blood on your knife? What if that guy said you attacked him and ran away? Even if he has a criminal record you just stuck him with a knife...

Focus on an avoidance plan, a less-than-lethal plan, and a lethal plan. It's a flight vs fight response because you have to pick one (wisely) and follow through. Even my cat doesn't scratch and run, she picks a path and keeps it.

So, may I assume that a short blade such as on DragonFly or neck knife is not suitable for EDC self defense purpose? Chances are that I'll never have to use a blade for self defense, and lugging some thing long in my trousers' pocket day in / day out is a PITA :D . Yet I read that the best defense knife is the knife you have with you. I'm not picking an arguement here, and I appreciate your recommendations and thoughts.

Keen observation, I just realized my cats never run either. They stand their ground and duke it out!

If you want a neck knife maybe try to find a swick or a spot
