K390, show your grips, usage and patina!

#1

Post by toomzz »

Hi guys,

Yesterday I finished the first K390 mule. I corbied white ivory micarta slabs with black liners on the tang and it worked out pretty well. The second will be corbied with lignum vitae, as I shouted of the roofs last weeks :D
I am sinning, I know, telling something, without pictures, I am working on that. :o Awesome steel, PITA to grind the tang smooth again but a very nice patina it develops!! I forced it a little with mustard and the steel turns gold-yellow with blue spots, like-like-like :D The angle of the edge is pretty steep and it cuts like butter. I am curious what our experts like Ankerson make out of it!

Show your grips and patina, bring 'em on!

No Patina yet, but I love these slim grips:

Mine just has the very-serviceable Halpern scales for now, but I plan to make some of my own for it.

I look forward to seeing pics of yours Toomzz!

Mine's been getting kitchen duty for the past week or so, mostly watermelons lately but also some banana and onion. Grips are Ranger Green Halpern Titanium and I've got some custom grips being made but won't be here for a while unfortunately.

Can't believe I neglected to throw in a K390 with my forum Native order. That patina looks so good!

Honestly, I would buy that in a nanosecond. I lobbied for a super steel Ladybug a few years ago and the best it's gotten was ZDP/SB so this would be outrageously badass IMO.

Thank you, the author of this thread made if for me last year. I love how high it carries. My mules carry much more comfortably in the car and at my desk.

Adam
Yes Adam, those are Halpern's Option #4 scales. These are the Coyote brown, I already had a set of the darker Earth brown.

As promised, the first :spyder: K390 is ready. White ivory micarta with black liners. I skipped the lanyard tube on this one. Notice the patina on the blade....
