This wasn’t today, but 11 years ago today. My first Spyderco, a ZDP-189 Stretch. Still miss that knife. I carried a Bugout today, but I’ll be sure to carry a Stretch tomorrow.
I've seen enough S1's to realize I missed out on something good. Most of the time they're captured in the open position, but seeing it closed really underlines what a great, well rounded design this is. Man, I missed out big...

My first good digital camera was a Nikon D60. Took a LOT of pictures with it, and learned a lot about photography from it.

Nice one! I wish I could’ve bought one of those. I’m carrying the native 5 lightweight and Rex 45 as usual.

If it makes you feel any better, I lost that Stretch in 2015 or so. I carry a new straight-spine stretch on a regular basis, and it does just great. I actually think it fits my hands better - the original was always just a bit cramped for me.

It might still be possible to find a Stretch 1 on eBay or at some dealers, but I don't think I'd bother unless I was after a specific color or steel that's no longer produced.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Cramped for you sounds just about perfect for me. I think.. I don’t keep track of peoples hand sizes, but I have the impression I’m keeping the average down on this forum, so statistically your paws are likely bigger. A Delica or P3 behind the choil is pretty much spot on for me. Haven’t held any of the Stretch models, but I fear the S2 is not ideal. I’ll probably get the S2XL LW if/when it’s released as a Salt, but that’s a different use case entirely.
There were a few S1s still circulating on the local secondary market when I got into this madness, but I didn’t realize it could be something for me until they were practically unobtanium.
I don’t need any shelf queens or sock drawer stuffers, so I’m reluctant to put too much effort into acquiring one, as I’m afraid that will affect how I use it. If one pops up on the domestic market at a fair price, I will certainly jump on it.
