Martial Blade Camp 2003

To all forumites (especially MBC alumni):

An MBC alumni gathering to be known as "Martial Blade Camp" 2003 is officially in the works. It will be held at the YMCA of the Rockies (one of the best-equipped facilities in the Rocky Mountains) from 12-15 September 2003. Anyone who has completed MBC Level 1 or higher is eligible to attend.

I am currently working out all the details, but the goal is to provide three days of training in MBC and related topics, including edged-weapon throwing, stick fighting, empty-hand tactics, and use of the collapsible baton, as well as certification in Counter-Blade Craft (CBC). I want the destination for the training to be special (scenic Estes Park, adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park) and I want the facilities to be outstanding (hotel-quality rooms, three hot meals a day, swimming, hiking, and a variety of other sports all within minutes of the training area). All this will be included in one flat-fee price. If you're worried about leaving the family behind, we are also working on options to allow you to credit the value of your basic room toward the rental of an upgraded room that will accomodate spouses and/or children.

Reservations have been made for 25 double-occupancy rooms, with the intent of capping the attendance at 50 participants. Full registration details will be available soon, but for now, you might want to check out www.ymcarockies.org to see where everything will be happening.

I welcome your input regarding the topics and activities you'd like to see at this event. Please feel free to share your ideas.

If you haven't completed MBC Level 1 yet, but are interested in attending the camp, please check out the schedule of upcoming classes on the Spyderco home page (go to Recent Events and click on the Event Calendar link at the bottom og the page). There's still plenty of time to do Level 1 (or more) before next September.

Thanks for your interest in MBC. I hope to make the Martial Blade Camp the new standard in edged-weapon training events.

Stay safe,

mike j

Dear Gavin and other MBC alumni:

The basic structure of the camp will have everyone arriving on Friday afternoon (check-in starts at 3:00PM). We will train that evening, Saturday, and Sunday, and then check out late Monday morning. Lunch on Monday will be the last meal provided, and training activities will conclude shortly thereafter. Although it's technically four calendar days, the program length is actually three days.

More information will follow soon.

Stay safe,

Mike-

Sounds GREAT! I have stayed at the YMCA several times for conferences, etc. and I agree with you that it will be a great site. Weather at that time of year is usually nice too! Count me in, looking forward to seeing you all there!
