My dream Dragonfly

#1

Post by Denix »

Hi guys,

I love Spyderco. I remember falling in love with the brand sometime in the 90's when I saw a few pieces in a knife store. My first one was a Caly Jr. SS in 2001. The second one was an FRN AUS-8 D'fly in 2002. I loved the blade shape and size of the D'fly. I bought many more knives since then, including a Sebenza that I never use, an etched D'fly that has been my main EDC over the last few years, and recently a Chaparral, which I love.

I've been waiting for the dream D'Fly. I kept hoping to see a carbon fiber one, which would have been nice, but I've yet to see that happen. I don't like G-10, and especially not green G-10, so I kept waiting.

At this point I should mention that I've always admired the work of Santa Fe Stoneworks. So, in December I figured that the waiting was over, and I would ask Bill at SFS if he could build my dream knife. It was a pleasure dealing with him and in short order we had decided on how it would look. Of all the available materials I really liked the Picasso Marble. I also wanted to have a web design so we worked that in.

So, here is what came in the mail:

While I'll be careful with it, I don't plan on babying it. I keep it in a mission wallet, but other than that it's usually with me.

A very lovely piece. I now have my dream Dragonfly.

Very nice, I like what Santa Fe does.

I have a Kiwi that they put a mother-of-pearl finish on, and I think it's beautiful. KnifeCenter has had a red Delica done by them that is gorgeous, but priced high enough that it sits on their shelf still :) .

Even nicer that you got Santa Fe to put your own design on it, a special knife.
Which Knife, A or B? get Both! (and C, D and E) :)

Very nice knife.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Spyderco actually did a CF Dragonfly a while ago. I believe they're pretty rare but I think they're out there.

Very nice. I saw some of the Santa Fe work at the SFO. One of these days I'll be walking away with one I'm sure.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you're correct, I remember that, but I missed it then. I'm pretty satisfied with this one though :)
