What Spydies have you purchased upon learning of their discontinuation?

#1

Post by Infinite Zero »

When the new discontinued list was revealed earlier this month, I saw the Breeden Rescue on it and realized this may be my last chance to get a new one at a good price. It arrived today (I had to wait for my dealer of choice to get one), and I'm not at all disappointed.

This is the second year in a row that I purchased a knife upon hearing of its retirement (last year was the Terzuola).

What knives have you guys jumped to purchase once you learned they were being retired?

I am going to kick myself if I let the Zulu disappear before I can snag one. I also want a Leafstorm before they become extinct as well.

I've purchased many models when they became discontinued, mostly because deeper discounts are available. the Hossoms, Caspian, Spyderhawk, Volpe, Kiwis, etc.

I didn't buy any discontinued this year, but in the past I bought quite a few.

I hadn't purchased a knife in 6 months but today received my Breeden Rescue. I knew I wanted one and the affordability window for me was briefly opened by the CS . Very happy. Then again I have yet to be disappointed by a Spydie purchase.
I already have a couple of the other discontinued models so the Breeden was a very easy choice.

I chose the Navaja over the Military because knives like it tend to have a shorter shelf life. I don't know if it's gonna be discontinued or not but I grabbed it to be safe. As I posted, I'll get a Military with Christmas money. I chose Super Saver Shipping on Amazon so their really taking their time to deliver it (well FedEx smartpost is) it's scheduled for next Friday but normally it comes a little sooner. I'm pretty excited... lol.

I scooped up a Leaf Storm, a Zulu, and a Perrin PPT.
...I have no knives I keep in a safe but there are one or two that don't leave the house...

Another nod to the Breeden Rescue. Still mad that I was too late to the game on the Captain.

I took advantage of good closeout prices on the Breeden Rescue and Puukko. I was interested in both, but hadn't gotten around to buying them yet.

Picked up a couple Hossom's, Khukuri, Terzuola slip it, Zulu, Breeden Rescue, and probably a few older ones I don't recall off the top of my head. I may still pick up a small Persian before they disappear.

Szabofly, smallfly trainers, Rock Salt and Aqua Salt. Those were my last acquisitions of that type.

I purchased 6 knives that are on the discontinued list. My fave of the discos is the Perin. That knife just feels right.
My least favorite is the superleaf. Not that i dont like it, it just feels the same in the pocket as the Manix2 XL but has a smaller blade. So it takes a backseat to the M2XL for me.
But all 6 were Spydercos, so they are all good :D

Can't say there are any on this year's list I'll be rushing out to buy but last year I grabbed a Citadel. Before that, the blue FRN ZDP Stretch is last one I can remember grabbing an extra of when its demise was announced and before that, there was the CF Kiwi. Snatched up a whole bunch of those. :o :D

I got a PPT and I love it. I would have liked to have gotten a Breeden, but I can't afford anymore.
