Anyone put a lo-rider clip on their Gayle Bradley?

#1

Post by phillipsted »

I was wondering if anyone had installed a lo-rider clip on their GB. I absolutely love the knife, but don't carry mine as much as I should - largely because the clip pushes too much of the weight too high out of my pocket. This makes it a bit awkward for me to clip into jeans, for instance.

Has anyone tried installing other clips? I've been thinking about emailing STR to see if he's made his Ti lo-profile for the GB before. I've also thought about trying to install one of my older STR clips from my Para2, but didn't know if it would fit.

Anyway, does anyone have experience, or even better, pictures?

Thanks!

The Para2 and GB both use the hourglass clip, so I don't know why a lowrider made for the Para2 wouldn't work. IIRC some of the Ti deep carry clips from USAKnifeMaker also fit as well.

I did awhile back, one of his pen clips (small clip). Possibly I was the first because I had to give him measurements. It's on my M2XL now, but I believe there is a picture in his forum's stickied pictures thread. It worked well, no problems. I like the shorter pen clip vs. his standard one because it looks less like a knife in the pocket and being shorter doesn't dig into the middle of your hand (which is why I don't like the usaknifemaker ones).

I got these titanium clips from usaknifemaker for about $7.00 each. The holes matched up perfectly for the Vallotton but I had to use a dremel to expand the holes to get it to fit the GB. I can now carry these knives much more comfortably than with the original clips.

The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

I did something similar to Ken's job. I cut two grooves in the CF for a Sage1 wire clip. The grooves are between the outside screws and the middle one. The heads hold the wire down just like the larger screw does on wire clip knives. The difference is I didn't cover the wires with anything like Ken did. Not too big of a deal. One suggestion. Pay very close attention to the angle of the grooves. On mine I carved them a little off angle compared to where I wanted the other end of the clip to touch the knife. The end of the clip ended up too close to the spine of the handle. I just bent the wires a little bit where they are screwed to the CF. It doesn't really matter. I just wish I had takel more care in planning. I do like the lower ride in my pocket for this knife when using the clip. For several knives this size though I prefer a pouch. Without a clip you can see the grooves just like any other wire clip knife.

Thanks for all the feedback, folks. Very useful as always. I decided to take an STR Ti lo-rider clip off of one of my Para2s and try it on the GB. Wow! It works like a charm and carries in a much more comfortable position. I'm thinking about contacting Steve to see if he has a standard triangular Millie lo-rider clip that would fit the new Starmate!
