At the Cub Scouts event today, Arbor day. Kids are helping plant new trees at a local park, and the grounds crew was trying to use a portable/battery saw to cut the tough plastic. Problem was that it was like 45F - no go. One of the parents got his pocket knife and cut one of the bases, so I moved to the other base, got my Military out, and we were in business, Milie cutting easily top to bottom, dirt and all. I took these pictures after we got the tree out:

"Be Prepared" - It looks like you were. Thanks for sharing. I think fewer and fewer are these days, but I imagine among scouts and scout parents, the percentage is higher. Chances are every parent there had a phone on them. It's always nice to have the right tool on you. Can't imagine a much better one for this job than the Millie. How'd the edge fare?

I didn't have to use the Spydie I had on me, but I did use my Vic Swiss army knife the other day. I was paying for lunch at a restaurant and the hostess couldn't find a pen for me to sign the receipt. She was going to have me sign with the dry erase marker from their daily specials board.

I got out my Vic, deployed the ink pen, and signed the receipt. My 13 year old son thought I was slicker than owl snot, so it was pretty sweet :)

I helped a guy find his phone at the movie theater a few weeks back with my Streamlight Nano.

Definitely keep a knife and a light on you at all times!

Always carry a knife, but if I go some where that carry is prohibited, like nyc, courthouse, stadium etc, I still always have a flashlight and a pen on me. Flashlight is one of many 4sevens lights and a fisher space pen. The space pen is the best, it disappears in your pocket, is relatively small and works everywhere and on just about everything.

You can still carry a traditional non-locking Swiss Army Knife in New York City. That might change too. But as of right now, you're good.

Did this with the cardboard version awhile back with my stretch. Some pebbles in the dirt may have chipped the ZDP just a bit, but well-worth it. And love the FFG!

Happens to me all the time. There's always some situation where something needs cut, everyone looks around at each other and eventually someone gets the bright idea to pull out their keys and start sawing away...then i usually pull out the heat and take over after giving them a few long seconds of humiliation.

Agreed. You never know when when you will need one or the other.

Last week as my train was pulling out, a kid was running towards the engine drivers compartment yelling not to pull out as their is a sick patient who needs to exit the train. Too late though as the train started pulling out. He had to grab the rail and board again. I had my Fenix PD32 out and managed to attract the attention of the train guard and pass on the message to the engine driver. Train stopped and they were able to get off. It felt pretty good afterwards knowing that I helped someone.

A knife and a light. Never know when they will come in handy. I know I can rely on my Spydie anytime. It would be great if I had a Spyderco light to go with the knife.

I always carry a knife. If I'm in a location where the laws are questionable I carry an old style multitool with a blade somewhere inside it.

The only times in recent history where I have not carried a knife have been when I'm on a 1 day business trip and I can't carry a knife in my airplane carry-on luggage. (Being a one day trip I don't do any checked baggage.)

The edge looks like it was never used - M390 is good stuff for sure :)

I cleaned the knife when I got home earlier today, and tonight we had dinner at a local German Brewery, and got to use the Military again:
