I too got the email that says Spyderco Chaparral Titanium $155. When I click the link it goes to $155 Chaparral Ti.

The day after I drop $173 on one, and it hasn't even arrived yet. Ghaa. Oh well I was OK with that price and that price was down from the first intro price. I wonder if these aren't selling as well as expected. It is a bit steep for a Taiwan knife. My CF version was perfect though so I have high hopes.

Heck, in that price range, it's not a cheap knife no matter where it's made. Maybe the cost versus the CF version is slowing sales? The CF version was a bit less expensive if I recall. With functionality being the same between the two, one would really have to have a Ti fetish to choose the Ti version over the CF. And for whatever reason I love Ti. And I am wanting one of the Ti Chaps. This may be my Christmas knife.Cave Dave wrote:The day after I drop $173 on one, and it hasn't even arrived yet. Ghaa. I'm guessing the Ti version is more expensive than the CF version for a few reasons:
1. CTS-XHP is an upgrade over S30V.
2. Ti causes more wear on tools than CF.
3. The intricate machining work to create the texture in the Ti is likely much more time intensive than just cutting out a slab of CF.
4. Material costs. A solid slab of Ti is costlier than a very thin layer of CF (which, if the same as the Sage, uses very little actual CF due to being adhered to a cheaper substrate).
