Thank you all for the kind congratulations and well wishes. Mommy and baby continue to do well!

Keep in mind that this knife was reground by Tom Krein to 0.005" behind the edge before he sharpened it, and I have also sharpened it a few times, so perhaps it might measure 0.010 behind the 30 degree bevel. It was sharpened up through the Ultra Fine stones on the Sharpmaker and then was stropped for good measure on a green chrome charged strop. I could have comfortably shaved my face with this edge prep.

It took very little pressure at all to cut through the cord. I had a hand full of gause pads and my hand was in a "live long and prosper" star trek position. The cutting motion was very small and was like I was dicing a very thin round off of a carot with pressure down and away from the palm of my hand while keeping the blade centered between the "v" shape gap of my fingers. I had made certain that baby Michael was shielded from the blade by my hand position and the Midwife's hold on the "non baby" side of the cord. I hope this helps for a cutting visiual without going too far into the details. :)

Maybe a pink Squeak is in order for mommy as a get well present? ;)

A very large congratulations to you and your family. Thanks for the story and the pictures! A ZDP red Jess Horn with a regrind was likely the sharpest blade in the hospital, including the throw away scalpels ( never saw any for Nerve or brain surgery but regular ones are no big deal). They handed me a pair of scissors to cut my son's cord. It felt like rubber.

My last 4 surgeries even involved surgical grade power tools that looked like regular drills and things from Home Depot tool section with plastic wrapped around them. They used a dremel tool to saw the bones :)
