Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. I cannot tell you if we have purchased one or not. That is something our legal team handles. Just the same though, it is not necessary for us to buy one of anything from their site. We are the manufacturer, we can recognize a fake/copy quite easily. We have very loyal fans and we are very proud of what we do. We've spent over 33 years building our name and earning the reputation that we have. So when someone comes along and attempts to make a quick profit off of our hard work and our customer's loyalty to our name, we take that very seriously.

Are you the maker of the fakes?uidyn wrote:en,,,thanks for sharing, but how do you know that? Have you bought one?
Its super easy to tell a fake. Like so many knockoffs they are close, yet so far. This is true because the fakers have no interest in making the best knife possible. They are copy cat experts, not knife experts.

We met with and spoke with our congressman regarding the counterfit issue. He wasn't aware that there was a problem. We're trying to get the Government to get involved in what we believe is a serious problem to the econony of our country. Spyderco is certainly not the only named brand being counterfeited.
Ali Baba is trying to get a seat on the US stock exchange. I guess that will legitimize counterfeiting
I guess we can try a grass roots effort? Maybe contact our congress representatives to alert them to the problem? I know many companies like; Zippo, clothing mfrs, watch mfrs, videos etc. have been fighting this for a long time. 'Tis a puzzlement.

Hi Chris,
We thought that would best come from our congressman. I think general awareness helps curtail people doing bad things to good people. We're a small company and we're all pretty busy, but we do extend a fair effort to make things right. Peter handles most of our legal issues and he's working with a few US agencies and our attorneys in Beijing. I think the more people that become aware and share their awareness is the best way to move forward.
Much of the knife industry is affected and are reacting. I understand that AKTI is beginning to address the issue as well.

Sal, has there been any effort by the Spyderco legal team to directly contact US Customs or file complaints or requests for enforcement through the OIG of the US Postal Service? It seems most of these knives are shipped to individuals via international mail with shipping within the US handled by the USPS through reciprocal international mail agreements. Would that not fall under the jurisdiction of the US Postal Inspectors who are under the Inspector General of the USPS?
