But I have certainly not lost any love for Spyderco.

This may belong in "off topic" so mods can move it if they like. I just wanted to post here so more of my old friends would see it.

I have gotten much deeper into the knife seen in recent months, and have lost no passion in that regard, but unfortunately I have been spending much less time on this forum (you have changed the place quite a bit!)

Anyway, some of you may know that I have had a developing interest in BladeSports and competitive cutting. Well, I have taken that several steps farther and acquired all the necessary gear to train and compete (including becoming certified by Spyderco's Sponsored Cutter and two time National Champ, Donavon Phillips).

I plan to start competing soon, and who knows...perhaps some day Spyderco will develop a competition blade for us to buy? I would love to try one out!

Anyway, I have been hard at work with this, and anyone who is interested in more, either feel free to contact me. I will try to check in here a little more from now on

Thank you for the update. and yes you have been missed. Once I saw some of your videos like chopping golf balls (Golf balls and knives!) I guessed you would be compete sooner or later. :)

I have made a few other videos since then, but not as many as I used to.

Yeah, the boys and I are regularly getting out and doing something (though lately it has been crazy hot, and the ticks are a serious problem). They seem to really enjoy watching and filming cutting practice. Its amazing the level of understand and respect these boys have for blades...then again, they have grown up around them

You mentioned about beung certified, what it actually entails? As a tester? I thought it's the blades that's being tested .. Sorry, I know zero thing about these competition.

You raise some good discussion points.

First off, thanks...I'm glad I offered some inspiration to you.

Second. In competition cutting the winner and the looser might well use the same knife. Said another way, the winner wins either because he is the best, or the best cutter made a mistake that allowed another to steal victory. These competitions are a test of the person, but this is not to say subtle advantages are not possible with superior cutlery.

Certification involves training and demonstration of fundamentals and safe practices. This can be a dangerous sport, we take safety seriously.

While conducting my certification requirements I had the opportunity to use my knife (the same model) and several of Donavon's knives (he is a two time national champ)...regardless of which knife I or he used, it was evident who the better cutter was
