The C155TIP: The perfect tribute to a legendary knifemaker, Mr. Centofante
<a href="http://s1107.photobucket.com/albums/h38 ... -12102.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h38 ... -12102.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Having been a huge admirer of Mr. Centofante’s work, I was extremely excited when I first saw this beautiful knife in the 2012 Spyderco catalog. As many of you are aware, Mr. Centofante unfortunately passed away in 2009. The Centofante Memory originated from a custom knife design created by Mr. Centofante himself. Mr. Centofante had given this knife to Mr. Sal Glesser some time before he passed. In honor of his many years of selfless contributions to Spyderco and the knife community, Spyderco created the Memory as a final tribute to Mr. Centofante.

After studying the knife in length last evening, I am completely amazed by the perfection of this design. The knife is incredibly elegant. I could find no flaws whatsoever in the fit or finish. I love the feel and look of the knife in my hand. The blue anodized titanium handle perfectly complements the silver glass fiber scale located on the top side of the handle. The Liner Lock perfectly engages the razor sharp VG-10 stainless blade with a subdued “click.” At 3.3 oz (94 grams), the knife has a perfect feel of weight in the hand, but without any unnecessary bulkiness. The Memory has a 3” blade (2-15/16” edge) and is 7-1/16” overall; 4-1/16” closed. The Memory is crafted in Seki City, Japan.

Finally, I wish to thank Mr. Glesser and the Spyderco Crew for this amazing knife. In my humble opinion, it is the perfect way to say “thank you” to one of the best knife-makers of our time.

Looks absolutely gorgeous :D I'll bet it feels as nice as it looks if not better. Beautifully simple and unadorned, elegance :)

I never realized Mr Centofante was a mentor of Spyderco. I only recently was able to purchase a low budget Centofante design and I love the elegance that flows through the Cento3.

Enjoy Spyder :D Looks like you have a very sweet piece :)

Super nice! Saw that some retailers had them in stock .... but since I have one on pre-order, decided not to purchase another, but to just wait for the pre-order to be filled. Now I really am anxious!!

Hmm... the first two pics make it look like the silver glass fiber is sanded or cut all unevenly around the corners. Is that the case?

Also, what does the back of the knife look like? :)

Thank you for the pics.

One question though, is the "lock" titanium?

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I'm still pretty much a neophyte when it comes to photography and the like. ;) I really have my beautiful wife to thank for this tremendous blade. She very graciously pre-ordered it for me as a surprise for our anniversary. This knife will certainly bring good memories for many years to come.

Good eye, DC. The smudge on the blade is definitely a "camera artifact." :) (The blue from the background must've somehow reflected off of my camera and onto the blade). I’m really impressed with the filed spine too. I think it really adds a unique flare to the knife.
David Lowry wrote:Hmm... the first two pics make it look like the silver glass fiber is sanded or cut all unevenly around the corners. Is that the case?
I see what you mean, David. But in this case, the “look” of the glass fiber is actually quite deceiving. In other words, I can run the tip of my finger along all of the edges of the glass fiber scale and it is perfectly smooth—although it would appear to be “rough” due to the way the weave-style texture of the glass fiber was cut, sanded, and finished. I hope that makes sense.

One question though, is the "lock" titanium?
That is a good question. I’m not 100% certain, but I’ll venture to say that it is a titanium lock due to the fact that the product information guide denotes the handles as being “blue anodized titanium” featuring the “Michael Walker Liner-Lock” (with no mention of a stainless steel liner-lock). Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Michael

Thank you for the wonderful pics. Mine shipped last Monday and hasn't arrived. I've been waiting for someone to show me what I'm waiting for. My Centofante III was my first Spyderco. Hopefully this design won't be my last. Well done with the pictures Michael! Well done with the knife Mr. Centofante and Spyderco!

Here are a few more pictures...
<a href="http://s1107.photobucket.com/albums/h38 ... -12100.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h38 ... -12100.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Man, I really like this knife. It fits just perfectly in my hand and would be my ideal "EDC-sized" knife. The only "problem" is that it's too nice for me to carry for an EDC. Just day-dreaming out loud here, but wouldn't it be neat if Spyderco created a G-10 or even FRN version of the Memory? (I'm thinking along the lines of the Walker family; from the Swiss-made Walker all the way to the FRN Walker). Thoughts? Suggestions? I know I'd definately get one (or two!) of the G-10 or FRN Memory models. :)

Yea, you really couldn't see that detail in any of the vendor's online pictures. It really adds visual interest and sets the whole design off. The silver CF looks awesome as well, Spyderco can throw that on as many knives as they like!

Can I bother you for a couple of answers? How big is the thumb hole and, if the clip is removed, is it inlayed or just mounted on top? (it looks mounted on top)

Agreed. :) I also like how the silver glass fiber almost gives the handle scale a 3D "look." Just the right touch, in my opinion.

No problem. The opening hole appears to be roughly 9mm (or a little under 1/2"). You are correct on the pocket clip: The hour-glass pocket clip is mounted on top of the handle scale (no inlay). Hope this helps. :)

That sure is a nice looking blade. I really like the shape of the blade on that one.
