Should this have been a second?

Newly purchased Sprint "R" looks like someone slipped while shaping the Nishijin bevel on the handle. I was thinking, QC probably should have been made it "second". What do you guys think? Send it back?

I'm pretty sure I see what you mean, but that looks pretty minor to me. I probably wouldn't have even noticed it.

Top photo, top of left scale, looks almost like a double bevel.

I could live with it, but it's not perfect.
I can't tell you what to think of it.
If you're unhappy, contact Spyderco and see what they can do for you.

Same here. Unless it has a notch in the blade then it technically isn't a "second"

I would send it in. They can reaccess it and deem it as good or a second.

I'm a picky one about my new knives. But this seems extremely minor. I'd let it go.

The QC on my sprint R Nishijin was absolutly terrible. It was dirty, the blade was way off centered, and the pivot screw was not installed correctly. I sent it back to Spyderco and they sent me a letter saying it was too far gone to fix and because they aren't making them anymore I could not get a replacement. Instead they offered me a credit which I took and got something else. Maybe you can contact the seller from where you bought it and ask if they can swap it out???

hmmmm, thats kinda cutting it close for me. its hard to say when its not my knife and not in my hands. im sure it functions fine but its the small detail that sucks, most people probably wouldnt even notice that if you handed it to them but i see what youre saying.
to answer your question though: i dont think it should be a factory 2nd

That would bug me to no end. Run it past customer service and see what they say.

IMO a very small cosmetic issue. I would bet the knife is within QC specs.
The wonders of macrophotography
Personally if I let small, fashioned by hand imperfections like the one pictured bother me I would be perpetually miserable
If the OP is unhappy with the small flaw returning to the seller first would be the best option. To me this flaw doesn't effect the function of the knife at all.
We all have different levels and areas of focus when it comes to our mutual compulsions :) It's the "normal" folks you have to watch

OP was asking if it should have been, not if it was...

For the record, look at any of your knive's handle edge bevels. Frequently they are not identical. I have noticed similar differeces in all but the Golden models. My GB is round on one side, angled on the other, but it cuts sweet so I dont care.
This seems to be a pretty common problem, and I would not consider it a big deal. If it really bothers you, take some sand paper to it, not that hard...

That flaw would ruin my enjoyment of the knife, so I'd send it in.
