I just got the knife and found the polymer cage is black.
But the key point is, the Ball Bearing Lock action is very smooth, almost like axis lock.
I think spyderco has resolved the biggest problem of ball bearing lock, finally.

Congratulations on your purchase!
I'm considering this as my next knife.
I tried the Manix 2 XL lock at the store and was surprised at how smooth it was. I remember some of the Ball Bearing Locks being very rough and hard to operate.

The lock cutout looks like it is less canted downward at the front (so more horizontal and less vertical). I wonder if that is part of it....along with the extra blade weight?

Congratulations on your Spyderco Manix2 XL! I was quite pleased when Sal and Spyderco brought back the full-sized Manix design. The Manix2 XL is so much like the original Spyderco C95 Manix. I really like the size and design of the larger Manix.

Every time I hold my XL I'm surprised by its quality. This one was a home run.

Great knife. I actually like the XL better than my regular Manix 2s.

This is one of my favorite Spydercos: I love the blade length and the confident feel it has in my hands. I might have to get another, now that they have that great looking black ball bearing cage. And at the prices they are going for, who can complain. :D I think that an all black tactical version, like the Para2 (screws, clip and all) would be pretty cool.

For those that have one, is some blade play to be expected? I sent mine in for revision because the blade was off center and there was some side to side play. I just got it back and the blade is centered and very sharp, it's also been lubed. But I still notice the side to side play, is that common?

In my experience with the normal Manix yes, this is due to the pivot bushing desing. Many have noted this even in the Para2.
However I have not detected any verticle play.
