Oddest compliment you've gotten

Earlier today I was near our home office which is located in a "hippie" town. I went down to the local cafe for a coffee and snack, since there isn't much room a majority of the people sit on a large stone wall. As I was sitting, I took out my Dyad Jr to open my pastry I got the oddest "compliment" that I ever had about a knife or Spyderco. Some guy walked by and simply said "Dude, that knife would be killer for scraping out my bowl!"

I knew exactly what he meant but was kinda shocked to hear it. I said thanks and it's also great for a lot of other things. He walked away and flashed me the peace sign.

I should expect something like this from the people who hang out and reside there but it was just one of those moments...

Anyone else receive odd compliments like that?

Well, not exactly, but I've had several people tell me I'm not as dumb as I look ;) Does that count?

Mine went the other way Ken, when I turned out to be dumber than I looked. :D

No, but I get people wanting me to carve pipes, because I carve. No, I won't do it. :)

- best wishes, Jazz.

Hmmmm. It would be neat to see a Bob Marley-themed Spyderco line... (JK). ;)

I don’t know if this counts or not, but just the other day I was taking an after-lunch walk with a few co-workers and our company’s executive director. As we walked along, the ED suddenly spied a low-hanging vine hanging over the sidewalk. He calmly turned to me and asked me to “cut the vine” because he knew that I “always carried a knife or two.” I withdrew my LadyBug H1 Hawkbill and sliced the vine with ease. One of my co-workers appeared astonished: “I didn’t know you carried a knife!” Wow. So now I guess I’m some sort of knife-wielding outlaw bandit or something. But, at least I got a few brownie points with the ED.

"Wow, you really come over-prepared."
Mind you, I carry one knife, one lighter, a flashlight, my keys, my phone and gum everywhere.

You're a doll... glassy eyed and empty headed. Oh wait, about my knife? None. :(

Hmmm. Its been a long time since I smoked a pipe, but you'd need a couple of other implements to make a real pipe tool...

None about my knives, and none that overt, but I've had a handful of people I'm sure mistook the wheat in Ed Schempp's logo on the tie-dye t-shirt I was wearing for something else when they winked, smiled, and flashed me the peace sign. Also happened once when I was wearing an Ed Schempp hat.

Probably thought it said "Ed's Hemp" lol.

I had a girl tell me i look like Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins. I took it as an insult, she thought it was a compliment lol.

A cop pulled me over a few months ago. He asked "What are you, ready for war?" Not sure if that qualifies as a compliment, but he said I was a great guy and let me out of the ticket.

An older gentleman I know saw me with my Sage4 whilst I was finishing a job and he told me "That's the most elegant murdering device I have seen you wield thus far".

I responded "Back off. It's mine". We both then laughed and he actually ordered his own Sage4 that evening.
