Mini-Para2

Hi Guys,

Is there by chance a mini para2 on the works or a similar knife closest to this? I really love the para2. But the knife is just too big to where I live. I was thinking that a mini para2 (2.99" and below) will be a good addition to the family.

Looking at the spydie knives available, the Urban CF127 is the closest resemblance I can see to a mini Para2. Unfortunately the Urban does not have a lock.

Are there any knives that closely resembles a mini Para2?
How about voting for a mini-para2? Any guys interested in these?

I loved to love the delica, but the 2.5mm blade thickness is just not for me.
I love to have thicker blades. The tenacious line to my opinion are referred to some people as a budget para2. But the steel and ergos cannot match the para2.

I was just about to make a thread about the Sage 5 being a compression lock. It is the perfect size!

That would be pretty cool, I wouldn't mind adding that to my collection.

The entire concept of the Para2 is unique due to its characteristics. Making a scaled down version of the same knife will not be practical. Will it be a little big knife or in between the LBK and Para2? Will it have a scaled down version of the compression lock or a different lock? How will that perfect Para2 choil work out in the mini version?

Thinking about all of this, I would opt out of buying a Mini Para2. I will stick with my DragonFly and Squeak for mini jobs.

;)

But honestly, a comp lock Sage really seems to fit the bill here.

Clodus raises an interesting question:

What is the smallest size you could make a comp lock knife? At some point, the knife would become too small to accommodate a large cutout for the comp lock lever. I'm thinking that somewhere between a Sage and a Chaparral would be the smallest practical size. I've got an "S" model, and while it is a cool blade, the comp lock seems a little...odd. Because of its small size, Spyderco had to design the comp lock lever to use less lateral force to disengage it (otherwise it would tear up your fingers). The result feels almost like a "toy" version of a comp lock - almost delicate. There is no satisfying click as the lock engages - only a small tinny "tick".

Don't get me wrong, I really like the "S" - but I'm not sure you could scale the Para2 down much and still get the beefiness of the comp lock that users would desire.

That's my $0.02, anyway...

I believe this was discussed a few months ago and Sal stated he wanted to produce a few other lock types for the Sage series before he considered it.

I'm in, say a sprint Para-mini? Could be based on a Sage or so, compression lock (if possible)

I'm on the fence for a Para2, because of size. I have a few Spyders and I find I go smaller for comfort (non-knife people as well) and the fact they all cut like ****. You don't need a large blade when you have a :spyder: "little big knife". My Ladybug & Byrd Hawkbill serve normal EDC and serve well, but a mini Para might be perfect for myself....

(without edit: an Delica size Para may not sell well, I have a few (yes few) Spyders but the Delica has no purpose for me, too small to compete against other Spydies. I can only see a mini-Para as a sprint, but I'd likely buy one)
