Urban; warnie vs leaf

#1

Post by tahomazz »

im looking into the urban. scratch that i am in love with it but i am having trouble deciding on one. I have a foliage green dragonfly which is similar to the leaf urabn i believe. Do any of you have an imput or experience with the two blade styles. I have to admit i dont own any warncliffe style blades and it intimidates me because i do not want to wear out the tip to fast.

As far as wearing out the tip, my experience is that you just need to sharpen the entire edge equally and you won't have much issue with it. My Centofante 4 has developed a very slight upward sweep to the tip, but i've mostly sharpened it on a Lansky, which has some issues with wharnie blades.

I have the Orange G10 UK Penknife with the Leaf blade and love it, it sees regular pocket time. I plan on picking up one of the wharncliffe's before there gone.

I have both and for my tastes...i dont care for he wharnie. I generally have more slicing type of needs with some belly. Love the leaf for nice mdsize btwn dfly and ukpk blades. Thr wharnie is noce, but not for me. Just my opinion.

Leaf shapes are more versatile but if you use the tip to cut a lot then wharnies are unmatched. There's a reason utility knives use the same shape.

Liked the Wharncliffe so much I bought a second one. Get them before they are gone, discontinued this year. Sierra Trading Post has them.

Figured I'd throw a comparison pic between the Urban Leaf and D'Fly. I find the Urban leaf to be an outstanding piece. Comfortable grip, beautiful action and solidly built. Perfect for an all purpose user. There's not much it can't do easily with a sharp edge.

Wharnie vs Leaf will depend on the user's preference. For me the leaf shape serves well.
