I know it has been out for some time now but I have just recently been somewhat smitten with the Mini Persian. I looks great and seems to be a good size EDC (for me at least).

How does everyone else feel about this knife ? I have yet to handle one myself so I'm just looking for opinions from people who have carried and used it.

Anyway , my curiosity is piqued and I believe I will one up after I get my brand new Sage 4.

I'm assuming you mean the black G-10 mini Persian 2? There was also a Persian and mini Persian with bolsters and black micarta. They are all good knives, but very different.

The G-10 Persians are nice EDC tools, but lack the sophistication of the originals, IMO.

You designed the Persian , didn't you ? It's a beautiful knife and the mini version will be mine very soon. I'm excited to get it.

I think the G10 in grey or tan would look less technical, fit the Persian's style better.

This is one of the knives I'm looking at getting :)

The small one looks like a great EDC. It's on my list.

The mini Persian in G10 makes a great EDC. Love that trailing point, you don't see it often in Spydies. It's a light piece too, much moreso than the bolstered micarta version. The action can be a bit stiff at first but that loosened up after an evening of 'watching TV' if you know what I mean. The clip definitely came too tight on my sample, but that too could be fixed. I carefully bent it to my preffered tension. Other than that, I can recommend it and I hope you'll enjoy yours. I think I'll carry it today, thanks for reminding me of this great design.

Find one of the original bolstered ones if you can, it's a really elegant little folder. The "tactical" version is, IMHO, just another sub-3" folder.

Well it's a concept that has seen many centuries of use and an iconic one at that. This folder is a refinement of a great traditional blade. I bet the ancient Persian warriors who carried this type of blade never thought that one day it would become a folding blade.

+1. Certainly try to get one. Prices on secondary market went down a bit.

I always was and always will be a fan of original Persian. I carry my C83 every day, except when I go out of state for more than five years. The clip lost the paint, the blade has a million scratches. It was dropped on concrete floor more than once and micarta was sanded to remove damage. I still love it. I carry my Lil Persian usually on weekends clipless and of cause it is in much better shape. In addition to ergos, cutting abilities and so on, original Persians have the look and character, which distinct it from most Spydercos. IMHO Persians2 are just another FFG -black peel-ply Spydercos, which cannot compete in my heart with Caly family.

I have the original mini-Persian. I have been trying to downsize my collection and get rid of the knives I don't carry as much. The mini-Persian is one of those that I don't carry as much, but I like the look of it so much I can't part with it, and never plan to. It is a beautiful piece. It's the only knife that I have that I worry about keeping pretty-looking.

And yes, Ed Schempp was the designer. Pretty cool forum, eh? Where the designers and company owners chime in every now and then?

I love the mini persian 2. I first got the large persian and didn't understand it. The Mini Persian is an amazing knife, it has near perfect ergos and operates like a dream. The blade is a little thin, but if you're not prying it should work fine.

I would love a Ladybug Persian! Micarta handles.

It really is fantastic. Two points:

Ergonomics are truly masterful. Mr Schempp and both Eric and Sal Glesser are each masters of ergonomics and visually aesthetic design. Mr Schempp also happens to combine ergos with beautiful and celebrations of classic and ethnic designs.

I echo everyone who urges to find an old bolstered version. I found one a few years after disco and couldn't have been happier. There are few gentleman's knives that so effectively combine class and function. NKP's will often find themselves entranced.

I recommend going full-sized if your lifestyle allows for it. The ergos on the full size are amazing since they allow for comfortable full handle holding as well as some great control if one wishes to use the choil.

Then again, I've never held the mini-persian so I can't compare. But honestly, how can you deny the more pronounced curve on the tail end of the large-persian!

Sidenote: Hey Mr. Shempp any chances for a Persian sprint run with FFG and bolsters? ;-)

At first I really thought the Persian looked odd and kinda unattractive. But the more I look at it the more it gets bumped up on my To-have-list. At least the Mini Persian, that is :) But I'm with dwong in that I don't think the black G-10 is the best fit for the style of this knife. Something less tactical would fit just so much better. I've seen a bolstered Persian in red G-10 on ebay and I thought it looked really, really classy. Bit expensive for my budget but not unreasonably so.
