viele at the fleamarket

Post by sharpguitarist »

hey guys,
got up early this morning and hit the flea market.
i went to the regular knife booths and found nothing interesting at all.
stumbled into a military surplus store and was looking at the gear, and i noticed a sheathed folder with three holes in the blade.
my excitement grew as i asked the fellow behind the counter to see the knife.
it turned out to be what i thought, a used pe viele with a kydex sheath.
my wife could see that look in my eye, and she asked how much.
$80 came out of her pocket and this beauty was mine.

it goes nicely with the se version that i bought new around twenty years ago, my second spyderco.

it's scuffed up a little, but in remarkably good shape.
i cleaned it up and gave it a good sharpening, and it opens as smoothly as it's brother.
and the kydex sheath is just a bonus, very well made and has great retention on the knife while still allowing easy withdrawel.

i have to thank my lovely wife for buying me both my viele's.
i'm a very, very lucky guy!
thanks for looking!
later,
don

None of the dirt malls around me have anything worth a crap. Only one vender actually carries Spyderco and she's too cheap to buy anything good because everyone else is too cheap to buy it from her, so she only has the usual Native/Dfly/Delica etc. Everyone else just sell Pakistan knockoff junk.

Nice find. Used PE Viele was about my third Spyderco and one I still carry once in a while. Even have a replacement of this model.

hey guys,
there is one guy at the flea market that sells spyderco's, and his prices aren't too bad. at least not as high as the gun shop over in the next town.
the gun shop charges retail and won't match any web prices, but they do have a decent selection.
the flea market vendor has a more diverse selection, and is at least $30 to $40 cheaper, but still higher than internet dealers.
i like to support the locals though, and sometimes but from both if i have the cash.
the viele was just a lucky rendom find, and i had to take advantage.
this guy also had a boa splash, the purple and pink version, which i've been wanting since before they were discontinued. but the spring was really weak for some reason, and he wouldn't come down on his $120 price for it.
thanks guys!
later,
don
