How many Spydies do you own?

#1

Post by flash900 »

Some of you probably have too many to count.

To find out my own answer, I investigated all my chests and drawers and boxes and learned that my new SuperLeaf is my 42nd Spydie. That's according to my quick and dirty count that includes dupes.

And while I love them all, it's been a long journey over the few short years since I became a flashaholic and then started looking at and finally collecting folders as well.

Long because I didn't know what I was doing at first, and still have much to learn (thank you, forum friends.)

A journey because I've had to buy everything online, which means I've had to experiment most of the time.

And while I love all my Spydies, I realize that I own some that I probaby wouldn't buy again. Either because they're a size that's not quite right for me or because I've come to know more about what I like.

My job requires me to seek out those people who really know what they are doing. Sorry to say, there aren't that many of them.

I'm pleased to report that I've enjoyed nearly all of my experiences with Sal & Co.; his excellent dealers, and forumites.

It's been a terrific and fun education. Thank you all most sincerely.

Lets see:

Para 2 20CP
Para 2 DLC
Paramilitary 1
Centofante 4
Caly 3 ZDP
Delica ZDP
Native lightweight
Ladybug H1/SE/hawkbill
Ladybug ZDP

So that's....9. I just sold a Para 2 digicam or i'd have 10. I could probably sell most of them and be just fine, but i have little reasons to keep each one. The 20CP Para 2 will either get worn down to a nub or get pried from my cold dead hands. The DLC Para 2 i'll keep for when i need a low key inconspicuous knife. The Para 1 i'm hanging onto for my son to use when he's ready. The Caly 3 is my dress/special occasion knife, plus i learned so much from sharpening that ZDP that i'd feel bad selling it off. The Cento 4, i love this knife...love everything about it. If it came in a high end sprint run i'd be in Heaven. The Delica...if there was a knife i have that i could sell that would probably be the one, simply because i never carry or use it anymore. It's a great knife that i got for a killer price, but there's just too many other knives in my group that get priority pocket time over it. The Native was my first Spydie and i'll never sell it. Eventually i plan on sending it back to Golden for a spa treatment since i suck at sharpening SE. The Ladybugs are my side kick knives that get carried on my keys or for when i can't get away with carrying a large knife like a Para 2. The H1 Ladybug doens't get carried much these days, but the ZDP Ladybug never leaves my keys.

My wife says too many, but I say not enough! Somewhere between 40 and 50 all but 3 are Spydies. Do other companies make knives?
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

Just counted, 63 with two still on the brown truck from golden. Got my eyes on a couple from the discontinued list for next week. And that's just the spydies! I'm sick! Sick I tell you!

I have 9 and when the Ernie PM2 arrives (hopefully in April), that will make it 10. (I'm good at math, huh?) Before reading the responses here, I was thinking I was an oddball in the smallish number I have. If I'm being honest, there are a few I really can't justify having purchased.

Knives is a fairly new thing for me. So my collection is not nearly as big as most. I have 10 Spyders, 1 Busse, 3 ZT's. John
