How about an Elmax Caly 3 CF?

The Caly 3 is my idea of the gentlemans folder. I'd love to see a version where we swap the ZDP varient for an elmax varient. Perhaps peel ply CF or Sage 1 style instead of the smooth finished stuff?

What do you guys reckon? Time for another Caly 3 sprint?

Guess the question would be whether the Japanese would feel any less offened about being asked to work with Elmax than with any other non-Japanese steel. Can't see why they would, but you never know.

There is a Damascus Caly3 sprint in the works. Like Paul said the Japanese work with Japanese steels.

I would like to see other products from Japanese foundries. People In the folding knife world didn't know what Super Blue was until Spyderco put it in a Caly.

I would love to see American steels in the Caly 3 or 3.5. Sadly, I do not see that happening. Deacon is right - the Japanese are not keen on working with American steels. I remember Sal also mentioned that shipping U.S. steels to Japan would also be costly, thus raising the price of the knife.

I hope that Spyderco will offer a more affordable folder in Elmax than the Lionspy, preferably one with a choil.

I love Caly3 design, but do not care about laminated blades and smooth CF. So solid Elmax + Taiwanese CF would be great for me. Still Paul's comment is correct :( :(. I saw very few Japanese knives made with foreign steel and all of them were kitchen knives. Still never say never, may be tough economy will make Moki people rethink their thoughts regarding foreign steel and CF. Another rule was: 1200 pieces is minimum order. There were at least couple sprints less than that. Economy is tough. My company is taking jobs, we would never took couple years ago.

Indeed, I completely missed the Japanese vs US steel thing last night in my drunken state of posting.
I guess what I'm really after then is a US or taiwanese made spydie, lockback, twill CF, Elmax, about 2 3/4 to 3 inch blade, wire pocket clip.... so a chaparral with elmax ;P
