Great link. Thanks for posting Michael. It is very interesting that the specific details about the knife type and size were not elaborated on by this media source. In another knife related post from a few days ago, the media chose to point out more specific information about the "folding" knife" with a "5 inch blade" that was used in that violent act. In this case the same details could point to positive aspects of such folding tools, however they are conveniently omitted.

Looked like a caly. I'm sure he won't be leaving home without his spydie again. Its a shame more people don't have a positive view on knives. I remember awhile back two fire fighters burnt their hands up pretty good saving a kid from an SUV. A pocket knife was used to cut him free. I always keep a rescue in my car.

For your all's information, the father posted about this story yesterday and said it was his Caly 3.5.

Maybe we should move the thread from the picture forum to the Spyderco forum, it will probably be seen more here.

Not that we have any mountain lions around here, but I can't help wondering how much worse things could have turned out if dad been limited to a 2" slipjoint.
That this event had to occur at all is horrible to contemplate. That it occurred where a man wasn't denied the right to own and carry an item to protect his family is a miracle.

Something like that is so much dependent on luck it's hard to calculate.
What we do know is the stars aligned just right and everything worked out perfect. It was a fight worth fighting. ALSO, for once in a long time someone used a knife for good and the news highlighted it properly.
Note: I'm more surprised of the good press on a folding knife than the good nature of humanity. We all know that stuff exists :) .

Yes it was. Whats up Derrick, nice to see you joining the Spyderco Forums. Welcome. Love your site, have ordered many bark rivers from you and more recently one of your last Esee 6s. Hows your wife doing?okbohn wrote:Awesome story...and that he posted here is too good! :)
Next what has to happen is someone will have to save someone by using their knife...maybe a politician being held at gunpoint. Maybe someone like the DA from NY. But he'd probably have the person who saved him arrested for carrying such a deadly weapon in his city.

Happy that they are safe and that the dad had a knife at hand to save the day. Never go anywhere without a knife has much meaning.
Wishing a speedy recovery to the son and congratz to the dad.

You are absolutely correct. That's a thought for the politicians in your state of NY and also Illinois and others. It should make those of us that carry both knives and guns feel a bit more justified. Although we don't need a tragic event to remind us.NYRich wrote:Not that we have any mountain lions around here, but I can't help wondering how much worse things could have turned out if dad been limited to a 2" slipjoint.

I'm glad to hear your son wasn't hurt any worse than he was. I'm sure that is due to your actions. Is that type of mountain lion behaviour common in the park? Sounds kind of aggressive to me that a wild cat would come that close to a place where humans frequent.
Please keep us informed on the progress of your son's recovery. I know I'd like to know.
