Lava body with a Dfly blade.
If he really made that, it would be worth much more than a BIN of $75.
It looks like he swapped a lava handle with a Dfly blade. Then acid etched the blade+handle to look like damascus. Brass liners? Some file work. Viola! It's a lavafly..

If that's the case, then his measurements are way off. Some of the design elements were definitely inspired by the Lava, but I'm inclined to think the knife is original.

Custom damascus knife with extensive filework for $75? Count me as "skeptical".

The dude obviously knows what he's doing. There's still something shady about the whole thing.
It wasn't a Dfly blade due to the stock left above the hole.. Maybe a ground-down--something else? I don't know. 75 bucks for that knife--if a legit custom--is WAY below it's value.
Something doesn't add up.
He never says anything about Spyderco in the description..but I still think he's using Spydie stock..ie blade and handle. Modified, of course..
It's actually a pretty slick looking piece..

If you look at some of the other knives listed they have phillips head screws?? Wouldn't begin to guess where these are actually made?

I'd almost bet money on the steel being from Pakistan. As for the knife itself, could be there too, just got an email adverrtising a whole bunch of folders from there. Could also be from China, or somewhere in SE Asia, or pretty much anywhere labor is cheap.

Damascus steel specifications:
1. HIGH CARBON STEEL -1060
2. En 23-3% NICKLE ADDED STEEL
3. CARBON ADDED DURING FORDGING OF DAMASCUS STEEL
4. HARDNESS OF STEEL: HRC 56=>58
(Details provided are 100% confirmed )

That is pretty odd I must admit, in the 6th or 7th picture on the hex screw, the hex looks pretty off center...

Good catch on that. Seeing the prices they charge, it has to be some middle east Paki or India damascus. Dont expect edge holding, but you may expect radioactivity perhaps.
Even thai 'custom' makers charge double or triple of that. On the other hand I have to admit I liked some of the razors, but when you look close on the pictures, a lot of the products have finish imperfections.

So you guys don't think it was made using existing spydie stock? And that the steel really is damascus? Interesting.
I'm a total noob when it comes to these things..but that must be some terrible steel if it's truly a custom going for 75 bucks. I have much to learn.

I'd be willing to bet that last year this knife was a leaf spring on the back end of a beat up old Toyota pickup truck - somewhere in Pakistan. :cool:

All I can say is YUCK!! :eek:

I know it's not much of a contribution, but who would buy that? I feel that for the asking price there are tons of better options. I'd take a used and abused spydie over that junk.

Notice how the listing ended prematurely, along with the other Spyderish looking knife the seller had listed.
