Which Manix 2 would you EDC?

#1

Post by Rugerspyde Ronnie »

I have gone heavy into the Spyderco world over last few months upon discovery. I believe for now the Manix 2 is my big knife favorite. I have three, two paras, salt 1 se, delica 4, native se, dragonfly 2 and ladybug.

Which Manix 2 would you EDC to use (not beat up)?

Moonglow s30v-EDC forum-FFA
Lightweight translucent blue BD1-ffg
G10 BD30P ffg Sprint run

I know which one I may go with but would love your choices and why.

I was actually thinking of picking up my first Manix 2. I am deciding between the moonglow or the translucent blue. I am interested to hear how others respond to you. It might help me make my decision :)

Out of yours, I would say rotate them all! After I pick up the moo glow I will use that one and my m4 but mostly the m4. Might as well use them if you got them

I will rotate but was questioning if I am not smart to use a sprint run though it has great steel.

For the question about Manix 2.

I love the lightweight feel of the translucent. It feels solid and very grippy and super light.

The Sprint has great steel (from what I read) and has very grippy G10 that could kill all but 5.11s or good denim. It is not too heavy due to skeletonized liner.

The EDC Forum is cool looking and slides onto pocket nicely due to smooth finish. It has steel that is a proven beater but it is kind of a collector. It has the great Manix 2 jimping but could be slippery if wet.

I would probably carry the lightweight the most if I had one. That and the M4 one would cover all my bases.

Of your picks I would prob keep the moonglow pristine and rotate the other two.

Of the ones you have listed, I'd use the BD30P. Great G10, and steel that is the same as S30V.

Nice, glad you are enjoying it.

Welcome Aboard! I'd say the G10 BD30P ffg Sprint run. It's a good steel, and the FFG really looks good in the Manix2 platform and slices like a dream. The translucent blue is wicked light with a wire clip, so that would probably be seeing a lot of pocket time as well.

I like the BD30P sprint for a meduim to heavy duty user. The lightweight model carries well and the BD1 steel is easy to maintain (and its cheaper) if your main tasks are fairly light duty. The moonglow model is neat but it has a very specific purpose in my kit so I don't EDC that one at all.

Based on my usage (opening large cardboard boxes, cutting straps, cutting copper traces on circuit boards, whittling wood into shape, de-flashing plastic holes, etc.) I really like the BD30P sprint - the steel gets very sharp and holds its working edge well. Its the one that I end up carrying the most out of all my Manix 2 models.

That said, I've been carrying the new Manix 2 XL steady since I got it last week - its definitely worth considering if you haven't made up your mind yet. Its everything I like about the Manix 2 but more of it!

I wouldn't edc the moonglow. However, I've never seen one in person, but, my experience with glow in the dark stuff is that if it gets dirty it gives off an uneven glow. That's why I haven't felt the need to pick one up. I'm not much of a manix 2 fan though (because of the bbl).

Out of the 3 I would go with the lightweight it's not a heavy duty knife but for normal edc tasks it's perfect.

I would rotate between the BD30P and the Lightweight. I can say from my personal experience that they both function very well for most EDC tasks. I only think they suffer from not enough reach when using during food prep. I prefer to grab my mili or resilience for that because of the extra length.
The BD1 steel in the lightweight has been really resistent to corrosion. I left it out on the cutting board for everyone to use during the new year's festivities and recieved alot of questions and compliments on it.

Thanks for thoughts. I like the Manix 2 vs para 2 and military (which I don't have). It will get a lot of mail, food, boxes, outdoor stuff on the property but not killer stuff. I believe the lightweight will be my primary with the BD30P likely on weekends if I am outside doing a lot. Somehow I will need to fit in my other knives. Delica4 stays in my iPad2 bag, which I often have with me. I kinda like my all black Native se for backup in my vest. My beloved Salt 1 is on hold for special needs and dragonfly 2 for suits and workday stuff where I can where a knife. The ladybug--I will plug that in somewhere. My Swiss Army knives are getting the shaft. My Leatherman charge for special days and stays in my gun bag. I know too much information.

FYI, I am not buying anymore knives until at least spring--I have spent too much. I am having to keep tell myself this. I am having to do the same with Rugers and a potential new iPad.

Thanks for the informative and interesting discussions.

The lightweight FRCP is awesome...I have many :spyder: and this one is quickly becoming my favorite. Only thing I hate is the plain edge...what the **** Spyderco?!

I actually ended up going with the Manix 2 154cm SE. This knife just looks bada$$ and the SE is killer sharp. I like the weight of the full steel liners. Feels substantial in my hand. The ergos on the Manix 2 fit my hand really well.

I wish the lightweight wasnt a translucent blue... Nothing against the knife, i love the design bc it would be perfect for edc, im just not a fan of the translucent blue.

Im looking at getting a manix 2 soon and im doing alot of research, i really like the m4.

All of the knives i buy go into rotation and use so i try to stay away from super prestigious sprint runs
