I have been lurking here for about a week. I have been carrying a Benchmade for the last couple of years, but I keep seeing how much the Spyderco owners seem to love their knives. So, I started looking around the forums and decided that I must try one. I really like the feel of G-10 scales, so that was one thing I wanted to try, since none of my knives had them. I decided to see just how good the Tenacious could be for the price. My new knife arrived today! So far, its everything I had hoped it would be. No flaws that I can see, and it locks up solid with no play in any direction that I can feel. I was a bit concerned about its size, especially once I had it in my hand. I chose the Tenacious over the smaller ones because it was available with a combo edge. It was a pleasant surprise to see how well it carries in my pocket despite its size. I am really impressed with this knife for its price. I am already trying to decide what my next Spyderco purchase will be. Possibly an Ambitious, or maybe one of the more expensive ones. Of course, I see now that I need a Bug also!

Welcome Aboard! There's a lot of good info to be found here, and some good people to share it with. Hold on to your wallet, , sounds like you are addicted like the vast majority of us are.

Welcome! its all over once you start looking for more. Thats what I did and everyday I find another new knife to add to the list. You should definitely be able to find all your answers here. So far a bunch of great guys. I think I finally registered about a week or so ago and have been here everyday as my wallet gets lighter :)

Hello Jimmie, and welcome to the Forum!

My wife has the Persistance and really likes it for general/every day cutting tasks. The ergos are actually quite nice for a medium-sized knife.

You may want to check out the Para 2, Manix, and Native 5. They are all available in G-10 and would complement your growing Spydie collection nicely.

You honestly can't go wrong with any knives from "The Tenacious Series". I only have my Ambitious left, but now regret selling my Persistence, and have lately been missing my Tenacious.
As to your thought that the Native 5 may be your ultimate Spydie, I can only concur. My Spydie stash is admitedly humble, but I think my N5 is still my favorite of the bunch ( even over some of the popular classics like the Manix2, Delica,Sage1,Stretch.)

Having too many knives is like having too much money; never going to happen :D

I have the Native 5 and sage1; I would say get the Native 5 first, but both are great knives. They are very very similar in all aspects. Main difference is the native doesn't have the top hump and its a slight touch smaller, but not much. The native 5 has the back lock as opposed to the liner lock, but the Sage 4 will have the Back lock but at a premium since it has bolsters and desert ironwood handles.

There are so many good knives to choose from. I would say when you are ready to start another thread wilth details of what you are looking for and we can all pitch in our opinions/suggestions. Everytime I look for a new knife I find more and more that appeal to me; so it gets really difficult to choose

Welcome to the forums! The Tenacious and Ambitious are popular for good reason. If you don't mind FRN handles you can save a ton in the budget while getting top quality.

I believe you'll be doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least consider the Gayle Bradley. For the longest time I wanted one but not bad enough to buy one I guess. Then I got the opportunity to trade one of my great knives that I didn't use that much for a Gayle Bradley. I had two of the knives I traded (different blade steel) so I traded. The GB is definately one of the ones that everyone should consider I think. It is beatiful, has great steel (M4) and VERY tough. It's considered a hard use folder but some consider it a little too pretty to use in a work or dirty environment. Definately a larger gents knife. I think of it as the agent 007 of the knife world. Looks good in a tux but definately capable if the tasks get tough. All of this is just my opinion though.

This forum really is great, I'm a member of other forums but always come here first, and have learned more here than anywhere. I do not have any of the value line folders, but i can also say I've never read a bad review on them either, except the pocket clip screws stripping. Sal is a class act, so you can trust if it has spyderco stamped on it, regardless of country of origin you are getting a quality folder. I can honestly say my $50 delicas and enduras are better knives than some from knifemakers that i paid 2x or 3x the price for. I suggest try a manix 2 they can be had for around $70 on amazon.com. It's the lowest priced knife made in golden besides the FRN native, I believe.It was my first spyderco and still one of my favorites. Oh yea, welcome to the sickness Buddy!

That Tenacious seems to have a knack for sucking us in and getting us hooked. I had exactly the same thing happen to me, buying it more out of curiosity than anything. Now I'm waiting on three other Spydies to be delivered, and already looking for what's beyond that. Welcome to the fun.
