Old School Endura-Gotta Love em!

#1

Post by Dr. Snubnose »

This is one of the first 5 Spyderco knives I ever owned....I loved this knife...Spyderco Endura With Nasty GlowingTeeth SE, G-2 Stainless Black Ti Coating, Intergal FRN clip. I loved this so much I had my Initials engraved on the blade....This knife saw years and years of daily use and that coating held up pretty good as you can see in the pics. Pretty classy looking knife for it's day.....hmm I think it still a pretty classy knife by even todays standards.....Doc :)

I love the old Endura's. I have 2 of them and don't use them because I know how hard they are to replace. They are such a classic design. The original Delica is what started it all for me. This was back in the early 90's. Everyone would say "****, that's an ugly knife", then they held it. :D

I recently lost a first generation Endura SE. Tough loss. Like losing an old friend. I quickly replaced it with an Endura CE and a FFG with grey handles.

My first Spyderco--Endura SE, Second Spyderco Endura PE. Now I'm addicted. Need Professional help. Is there a clinic somewhere to cure this addiction?

The Endura was my first Spyderco back in 1991. My blade is very scratched up, and I still use it often.
It's also the smoothest to open/close Spyderco I have.

My 1st Spydie was the Gen 1 Endura @$39, which I thought was wildly expensive back in 1991.

My first one hand open knife was an endura back in 95. About a year later it saved my life when I was stuck in an upside down burning FJ40 in the middle of the night. I trully believe that if it hadn't been for that inovative pocket clip I would have burned hanging upside down traped by my F*#@ stuck seat belt. There has been a knife cliped to my pocket every day since then, some times the blade has a butterfly some times a spyder but its always there.

The old Enduras are my favorites. I don't understand why the profile has changed to the rounder tips. Was there a problem with heat treating or were people using them as pry bars and breaking the tips? Right tool for the right job and all that. I like AUS 8 just as well as VG 10. You all have some really nice examples (especially Tony - I drool when he breaks out his collection). I have a PS model.

Part of the reason I like the current Enduras/Delicas so much is they more closely resemble the profile of the originals I use to have.

Nice classic Doc.

Thanx much for the trip down memory lane. Some of those "old" knives are in very good shape.

Also intersting to note that the developement of the model over the years was mostly from people using the knives and making suggestions.

We appreciate your interst.
